Talking Need help and ideas ladies!

I am making new curtains for my kitchen and trying to only use what I have on hand. Well I had 4-5 different fabrics with watermellons on it so that is what I am using. lol

    Here is the valance.

Now this watermellon fabric with the stripes is what I have the most of. I think I have enough to do my 2 full windows on the bottom.

Should I use that or should I try to piece something together? I don't know if that will be too over powering and take away from the valance which is what I would like to highlight. I do have enough bleached muslin (what I lined the valance with) to do something with on the bottom.

can you pin up a folded piece of the watermelon fabric that you want to put there? Then you can step back and see how it'll work?

BTW great valance, love the fabric!

    Deed,

That stripe might overwhelm the Valance, but I don't know if muslin would look right either.

Good idea...pin some of each up & then make your decision.

Good luck...by the way ..the Valance looks wonderful!

I love your valance too Dee. I would try the watermelon material just as Melissa says and see if that works. I think though it would take away from your valance.

I think a white bottom would go great, with a little strip of the watermelon material at the bottom of the curtain.

You have to tell us what you've decided to do.

Yep that stripe is just too over powering!

I'm just thinking out loud here but what do you think about a solid white bottom, trim the top in the striped fabric to match the valance and somewhere towards the bottom of them put a strip of '9 patch' squares to tie them together?

I love it, I think the stripe isn't too strong when the light is shining through it.Even when it isn't I love it! I just want to say, I think that valance is just so beautiful & summery. You did an awesome job Dee. Ever thought of doing some of this kind of thing & get paid for it? You are awesome!

I have thought of this, getting paid for doing something I love? I would be on My problem is I can come up with ideas and do the work, but when it comes to marketing myself I am no good. I don't have a clue where to start???

My grandmother belonged to the homemakers group for many years. They had quilting shows where they displayed their quilts and some people would buy them. Also, there was a store that sold curtains, quilts, country type items where she ended up selling lots of her quilts, handmade dolls, etc through that store. Word of mouth also helped her. She would have people call her and say Mrs. Soandso showed me her quilt, and I was wondering if I could get you to make me one, etc. Maybe you could get into selling that way.
