    Default sewing advice please

I made this teacosy, it's in Chosen Path of Simplicity - my daily pix #18 - (sorry, I can't post the pic twice) and I need some help with my seams for the next one I make.

Down the bottom where the seam comes together it's rather bulky.  Is there a way of sewing the seam flat?  I think I'll have to handstich this one flat but I want to make some more of these and I'd like them to look "finished off".  Any advice?

First of all Bethany, I think you did a fabulous job!!!!

Where do you mean? At the bottom of the dogs feet, the bottom circular piece or in the side seam?

What you could do in either instance is topstitch your seams down. This is when you press open the seam and then stitch close to the seam on each side of it. That will make the seam allowance on the inside lay down.

You could also sew the main body of the tea cozy, then add the bottom piece and sew it on in a circle, after you have sewn the side seam. Then trim the seam allowance which means grade it to help get rid of some of the bulk. Press it towards the bottom and then topstitch it down, again sewing in a circle. You wouldn't want to open this seam, because when you topstitched it down, it would interfer with your dogs feet.

Does that make any sense to you? If not just holler and I'll see if I can explain it better.
