I made the $38 Purse
There is an alteration shop here in town that is making these adorable little purses and selling them for $38. I keep seeing the purses everywhere. They look like a gift bag with real nice trim on the outside and cording for the handles. The are usually made from a fairly heavy fabric and lined inside. Well when I was at the beauty shop on Saturday I had an opportunity to check out the purse up close and figured I could make one too. I bought a remnant of upholstery fabric at Walmart and some cheap cotton for the lining. I got fancy trim and cording and wahlah, here is my version of the purse. It took me a bit to get the lining just right but considering I had no pattern, I think it went well. It's hard to tell from the pic, but the fabric is a dark burgundy and the trim is burgundy and beige. I could make one now in probably less than 1 hour. Looks like a Christmas project to me. Just have to make sure to find the fabric and trim on sale (or have a coupon).
So tell me, what do you think?

I can't believe anyone would actually pay $38 for a purse like this. Here is the inside shot. Even with the trim, I'm guessing that I have about $8 - $10 in it total and that's because I didn't have time to do serious shopping for what was cheapest/on sale.

I thinks its great!! Purses are so ridiculously priced. I made a similar one with a cherry print fabric and another with flames. The cherry one has little red crystals hanging off the top and the flame one I made for a trip to Vegas so it has little dice going around the top.

Thanks for the wonderful compliments. The purse style isn't really me either, but it the "trendy" folk here seem to have one for every function. I want to make some in a winter but not Christmas fabric. Maybe with snowmen or something as gifts.

Love the purse. I have bought fabric that is still lying around the house here somewhere to make bags and just haven't gotten started. Looks easy to do. Could make Kat a diaper bag.Carol
