    Default my first maternity project.

I had an idea today. I saw a pattern on sale **cost me .99** at hobby lobby and it hit me I CAN retro this top to become a nursing top. I bought chiffon (?) fabric in two colors **bought fabric at 30% off**. One color will be the outside shell, and the other will be the inside "liner". I have studied nursing tops from www.motherwear.com and some other web sites to see how openings are made to allow for nursing a baby. I will be cutting the openings in just the liner. So now I am doing it. I took this pattern http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin...em.M4396=x&TI='4396'&pageNum=1 (if it doesn't come up, go to McCall's website www.butterick.com, click on McCall's and then type pattern # 4396 into the search space. click the pattern pic)

the top right side of the pattern is a simple camisole. What I am essentially doing is making two of these (minus the interfacing) and sewing them together. The inside part of the front is pretty much loose on the sides. It will button in two places on each side to keep it from bunching up under the shell. the back "liner" will be secure in the seams of the shell's front and back. I hope this makes sense. I refuse to spend 40.00 or more on a top that i may or may not use for 6 +/- (depends on baby) months. So once I get it done, i will take pics and show you.

this whole top will cost me about 8.00 when you factor in the buttons, thread I had to buy to match (bright orange on pastel blue would have stood out just a tad), the needles i had to get for my machine...etc etc. When you compare that to store prices for nursing tops, that's not too shabby at all!

so the top camisole will be lose and attached to the jacket bit - correct and the under camisole will have the udder express port?? How will you be doing the seams for that so that you don't inadvertently play peekaboo through chiffon and make some poor 7-11 boy go nutty...

basically it is two camisoles. one is the outter cami, the other one is underneath. The one underneath is just buttoned in place along the side, so that I can un button, lift up the top layer cami and nurse. the outter cami is solid with no indication of the cami undeneath. The underneath one IS attatched to the outter one via the shoulder and neck seams. Kinda like a layered shirt.

Lemme see if this pic helps it make sense...

Missy the top is really pretty and I think it's a wonderful idea. Best part of all is that you can gets lots of wear from it.
