    Default Mending

Wasn't quite sure what category this would be best in, but it fits I think.

Do you mend clothing? I don't always, especially if it is mine or if the hole is too big. If it is mine I just leave it alone, lol. Too much time spent mending the kids stuff! LOL.

I don't mind doing it, but I really never "learned how". I try to use the smallest, most invisible stitches possible and usually it comes out pretty good. Do you mend tiny holes in garments? Do you mend socks, bras, or do you stick to the larger garments, pants and shirts?

Currently in my "to mend" pile is the clothing i bought...oh a month ago? at Goodwill. Where they pushed the plastic holder for the price tag into the garment left holes where the "gun" point ripped the fabric.

I only mend large items Missy. But for those holes created by the price tag. If they are visible, you can dab some Fray Check on them or even clear nail polish.

Won't the fray check leave a hard spot where it is applied?

    good tip, dee, thank you.

I never used to mend, even clothing that needed buttons I used to throw out. I'm know, I'm a dunderhead.

Now, with my waste not, want not policy I mend everything that I can mend and I've cut down drastically on the amount of clothing I buy for myself and DH. I sewed three buttons onto shirts just yesterday and although I'd never bore anyone I know with that story, I really feel proud of myself for my turn around.

Yes Missy it can. Just make sure you spread it on thin and even. It's when it has lumps that it is scratchy.

I really only end up mending dh work pants. somehow he wears them out really fast, the crotch always splits. lol

and a knee of course. If the hole is at a seam I try to take care of it. but usually only do a patch or something for others.

I don't mend much. Usually the stuff that gets torn needs to go anyway. Like the inside of the thighs of my jeans where my fat rubs together - once they tear. DD just tore a hole in a pair of velour leggings that I got for $1. I tossed them because they were too small for her and she just kept wearing them!

I mend what is still in good condition, if it's just too worn out then it gets used for something else...like "paint clothes" or rags, etc. The smaller items get mended only if they are still in good conditon as well.
