Sergers?? What brand??
What kind of serger do you recommend? What price range? I need to buy used as I don't have the funds for new.
Here's the situation. I have a 13 yr. dd who loves to sew. She'd sew all the time if I had the space. Usually she sews at her grandma's. She develops her own patterns and sews them. I want to keep encouraging this.
My girls are in 4-H and we recently had our county fair. Erin sewed a 6 panel skirt out of suiting material that was plaid. She matched the plaids/seams up even. I was very proud of her. She got a blue ribbon on it and would have gotten a purple if she had serged or done something to the seams so they wouldn't ravel. It seemed a little unfair since she didn't have access to a serger. She always manages to get this one judge who is really hard, but fair. She was impressed with Erin's ability. This skirt she did use a pattern, though.
I am praying/looking for a good serger to help her out.
Any advice welcome. Thanks.
(Just realized I need to change my sig line.)

Hi! I have a bernina 334d that I bought new and I love it. They sell on ebay for less than a hundred dollars for a used one and are very reliable.
It has a three or four thread serge stitch and a nice rolled hem. You can get optional feet to put in elastic, lace etc.

First of all Congratulations Erin!

I have 2 but only 1 is working right now. My Brother 834 (I think) I have had this one many many years now and it has been a work horse for me. 3/4 thread, differential feed, rolled hem and very easy to control. You can also get attachments for other finishes too.
The other one is a BabyLock I think. I just got it as my sis passed away. I know that it needs a good cleaning and some work, just not sure yet what all needs to be done.~~ Dee ~~

Dawn, it's wonderful that your daughter loves to sew! Good for her! I don't have a serger at the moment. I hope you are able to find her one that she will like an use!

That is so great that your daughter sews! I have a Brother I got a Walmart for under $100. I have been sewing since I was about 12 and this fits my needs perfectly.
