Question Is anyone sewing for charity?

I am cutting out some baby & kids clothes to donate to the Katrina hurricane victims today. I may do some burp cloths as well. I hope to have a box ready to donate to the Salvation Army sometime later in the week.

I am also putting together a couple of quilts too as I've heard that they really need blankets and the like.

Is anyone else sewing for charity of any kind?

Katrina victims need bags. People left with the clothes on their back and they're carrying around their stuff in paper bags and plastic bags. In our town they can shop for free at Salvation ARmy and another thrift store but they need a bag to hold the stuff. A lady in our quilt guild has been making bags. You don't have to use fancy material. You can cut up old stuff and make bags even sheets. Here is a site with a free bag pattern.

I'll be continuing with my usual charities. . . .

    our local homeless shelter

    local PICU

    Pine Ridge reservation

I'm afraid that in the aftermath of Katrina, these will get overlooked and they still need help as well.

That's a good point Denise. The need is still there for the "usual" charities, and we shouldn't overlook them

I agree Denise, so I am making hats for 'Caps for Kids' and as soon as I set up my one knitting machine I will be making pet blankets for the local animal shelters.

    Good job ladies!

I'm making pet bankets too Dee, out of a a bag of yarn I have. Odd colors and not enough for a large blanket.

I sew quilts for premature babies. Also will be doing tote bags for abused (now single) moms after Christmas.
