Talking My first pair of fleece socks!

Here is Jack modeling his new socks, LOL And no, I do not do his laundry, he does his own, hence bleach spots.

Oh and Audra just had to get into the pic too.

This is from the Green Pepper pattern. Pretty easy to do, but next pair I am making the top ribbing (that you can't see) a bit bigger as it was a tight fit going over his foot.

He has a thing with seams in socks and says these are very comfy.

Very nice Dee. Dd has a thing with seams in her socks as well. I should try making some of these.

How do they work when wearing them with shoes or running shoes? Are they a tight fit?

These are calf length CJ and yes the top is tight (very tight actually) for Jack. I heard some stitches pop when he put them on. Jack is so picky about seams in his socks too but he put them on over another pair so I'm not sure yet how they will be in shoes or boots. Next pair I am making a bit larger for him all over and will let you know.

The pattern also lets you make knee highs. And as far as fitting, the pattern calls for stretch fleece and Jack said the foot part fit perfect, it was just the top on his calf that is too snug.

    How neat!
Hey Jack, be careful with that bleach around your fancy new socks.

    Doesn't all fleece have stretch?

Did you flatlock? I know if I make a pair for my father, he will complain about the inside seams.

Yes all fleece stretches, but some stretch more than others.

No, I made them on my regular sewing machine. I have tried flatlocking with fleece and it tends to pull out. The only seam I could 'sew down' was the heel, not the toe as you can't get in there after it is sewn.

looks like I won't be making a pair of these for my father then. I know the seams would drive him nuts.

I was thinking for bootie type slippers, you could cut this pattern down farther on the leg (ankle height) and make 2 socks, insert one inside the other, so no seams actually touch the foot. Of course if you have linoleum or wood flooring, don't forget to add something to the bottom as a gripper, or there just maybe lots of falling down.

If you can't find gripper fabric in your area (like my area) you can use those fabric paints that 'puff' up when you heat them with a hairdryer. I have some so I am going to try it out and let you all know how it works. May not be till after Christmas though.
