    Default Dee help!!

My sewing machine is acting wonky. I have checked and rechecked my threading, bobbin, settings, tensions. I have oiled and checked the gears. For whatever reason the bobbin thread is not catching the top thread. I have changed tension, I have changes stitch tension and length...nothing is working. Any idea??

Is the needle new? This happened to me before and I think I replaced needle and it worked fine. Just a thought

I bought it new 6 years ago. I just finished cleaning it. new bobbin, new needles, new oiling, checked all the tensions again. for the life of me I don't know what's wrong. it is frustrating to say the least. I have alot to get done on this machine this weekend.

I know NOTHING about fixing sewing machines..I just know that I'm cheap, so I tend to try to fix stuff myself before I'd pay a repair-man. So, anyway, this is probably not proper thing to do & the repair-guy would probably yell at me but maybe I can be of help....

Do you have little screw on the bobin-holder-thingy? Both of my machines do. I've tightened up or loosened tht screw just a TEENY bit & it stopps that. You'd have to experiment with it a couple of times. When you're expermienting, be sure to use the fabric that you'll be using as scrap so that you adjust it to the proper strength.
I think eventaully, I'll need to actually take it in to have the tension adjusted properly, but this has gotten me through for several years. Mine tends to do what your machine is doing when I switch fabrics...cotton to fleece, etc.

My machine does that same thing, the bunching and breaking thing I can't for the life of me figure it out either...so I'll be lurking to see what you figure out! Wish I knew how to help

Sorry Missy I was out for the count last night. :bed:

When cleaning it did you take out the bobbin casing and take off the throat plate? That is where all the dust bunnies hide in a machine. Remember to use a brush and do not blow out the dust as that just imbeds it deeper into the machine.

Jamee is right and not doing anything wrong adjusting the bobbin tension. It just takes practice and that is what that little screw on the bobbin casing is for, adjusting the bobbin tension.

Another thing that could be causing it is putting your bobbin in the wrong way. Yep there is a right and wrong way to every machine. Look at your manual to make sure you have the bobbin in correctly.

Next make sure your needle is in correctly. There is a front and back to all needles and they also have a correct way to go in.

What brand and model do you have? Maybe I can find a picture online to help me *see* it better.

Let me know how things go.

Good Luck Missy! I know how frustrating this is! I don't have any other suggestions from what others have already mentioned.
