Default this was so fast and easy!

i took an old sweater, turned it inside out. on the sleeves from the cuff up trace your hand( both hands, one on each sleeve) leave the cuff of the sweater for the cuff of your mitten
then you cut out and sew to make mittens. then i took the sweater and laid it flat, traced a hat on the bottom ribbed part, cut it out and sewed, the from the center i cut a strip and made a scarf. so out of 1 sweater i can get 2 hats, 1 pair of mittens, and a scarf.
a couple of hints, don't use dark sweaters unless you have a chalk pencil, i used a marker and couldnt' see my lines.
leave plenty of room for your thumb, and when you cut the cuff part fo the sleeve for the mitten. make sure it is big enough for your hand to fit thru

i made 3 sets in 30 minutes. great charity item or gift idea!

Kim, glad to see you're recyling. What a wonderful ideal. I don't have any old sweaters with any cuffs , but if I come across one I'll use your advise.

I was going to do that! I got a sweater for $1 at the Salvation Army. The dog tore it off the line and chewed a hole in it! I didn't think of the scarf though. Did you sew a tube or just hem the edges?

Oh, it's a striped sweater, so I was going to use the pattern in it for a guide! How did you cut the hat? I thought I'd cut mine like a crown, with 4 triangles or points to make the top part.

karen, i just did a rounded top hat, but a crown would be 2 cute. as far as the scarf, i jsut cut i the sweater in the middle then took one side out, trimmed it up. so far the ones i have won't unravel.
