    Default Question about fabric

I want to try to sew my own curtains using a pattern I found at Wal Mart, however I don't know what kind of fabric to use...

    Any suggestions?

Usually, if you look on the back of the pattern, it will have a little area with fabric suggestions. Depends on what area they are for, light requirements, etc. If you can give more info, maybe we can help you a little more with some ideas. I've made most of the window treatments in my home without a pattern. I can dig up some photos if you want....

I agree. Do you want to be able to see through them? Do you want it to be a lace material? Do you want to line them?

It would help if you gave us a little more info.

ok, here is a link to the pattern on McCall's web site...

    http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M3478.htm

I want to make the large blue variation.... so I guess one layer would be see through...I don't really want a lace.....

The other layer would need to be thicker (not see through)

Okay...they sheers can be whatever you want or find that you like. Check the discount tables at your fabric store or even Walmart. It's probably going to take a fair amount of fabric, so it depends on your budget. The set of drapes is probably lined, so the fabric itself won't have to be too heavy. You can use any kind of cotton or cotton blend. I usually use muslin, or just plain white cotton for lining. If you're going for that look exclusivly, I think toile would be pretty. I just recently bought fabric for new family room window treatments at our nice fabric outlet....decorator quality fabric on clearance for 1.00 yard! Curtains take a lot of fabric! Also...have you considered sheets?

I agree with mermaid and homesteadmama.

I only buy large quantity of fabric with discount coupons.
If you plan to shop at JoAnns fabric- I can send you a 40% off regular price. I think it includes the bargain fabric- which is what I would use. PM me if you want it.

You can choose any fabric you like and can afford!
That's the beauty of making your own items. It doesn't matter at all.
