Receiving Blankets
Can anyone tell me how to make receiving blankets. I found a pattern on the internet, but my sewing machine doesn't have any fancy stitches. It does have a zigzag stitch. Can I just cut my flannel to size and zigzag around the edges? I don't want to make it double layers, just single. TIA

Yes, just cut it to size, zigzag, then fold over the raw hem and straight stitch. I remember mine were around 45 inches square, but just measure one and make it accordingly.
You can ignore hemming altogether if you use polar fleece, because that stuff is just cut to fit, no hemming required. The edges stay fine.

I just do a zigzag on the edge. make the stitch shorter (I think thats how I did it...) so that they are quite close together.
