this is similar but with a placemat:
Travel/Baby Essentials Roll
Materials:
Wimpole Street Creations sage dobby check placemat *
3 yards of 3/8" ribbon *
white thread
sewing machine
scissors
large tapestry needle
low-temp glue gun and glue sticks (optional)
Steps:
1. Thread the ribbon on the needle. Weave the ribbon in and out of the large spaces of one long crochet edge. Trim the ends. Machine-stitch or glue the ends on the wrong side to secure.
2. Lay the placemat right side down. Fold up approximately 4 inches from the bottom (use lines as a guide). Make six to eight pockets of desired widths by machine-stitching through both layers, beginning below the lace edge and continuing to the folded bottom (figure G).
3. Secure the ends of the ribbon with a zig-zag stitch or glue. Fold a 36-inch piece of ribbon in half and machine-stitch the fold securely between the layers of crochet lace at the center left side. Weave the ribbon around the remaining sides of the placemat.
4. Fill the pockets of the roll with travel-size toiletries, jewelry, cosmetics, baby items, etc.
5. Roll from right to left. Wrap the ribbon around the roll and tie into a bow.
