    Default Look What I Made!

It is an "I Spy" bag for children. You manipulate the rice (or couscous, beans, sand, whatever) around to try and find the objects. It took me an hour or so to make, because I was working on the prototype. This one doesn't look that great, but I plan to change how I made them, perhaps surround the vinyl window in ribbon.

What would be an appropriate price to mark these as? The bag measures about 6x6.

I love these! I think $8 would be appropriate. A toy store sells these (only in plastic tube form) and I think they get $12 for them.

    Nice job!

    Great job!

This is on our list of HM Christmas gifts to make, but we're going to make ours in soda bottles with dry soy beans. (We'll bake the beans in a 250F oven for 20 minutes to kill any buggies and so they won't sprout if they somehow get damp, and we'll glue the soda lid on.)

Odilia, how would you manipulate the bottle to find objects? Just shake it? Or is it still possible to squeeze and move the items around?

You just move the bottle -- roll it around, shake it, etc. The bottle gets filled to about an inch of the top. That leaves room for the beans and "treasures" to move around.

For those of you who've never seen these toys, here's a link to the original "Find It" game. http://www.growingtreetoys.com/product/5140 It's a really fun toy, and it's one that's easily made at home as long as you keep safety in mind by making sure whatever vessel (bottle, pillow, etc.) you use cannot be opened or spill out its contents to become choking hazards.

Also, if you use food items (rice, beans) for the filler, baking them first will kill any bugs/eggs in the food and also prevent them from sprouting if they get damp somehow.

If you have/buy those rainbow-colored aquarium rocks, I think they'd make a great filler, too.

What a good idea. My brother works in a plastic factory I bet he could get me some bright colored pellets. A fun Christmas gift.
