~I made another pair for my dd. I had to make some changes to my pattern(of course!) but I think they turned out well. Pic is on my blog.~

Job well done. You're just sewing up a storm. I haven't had the motivation to sew lately. All your projects turn out so well. You are very talanted.

You are so talented Constance! I must say, you have inspired me to learn how to sew. I think Im gonna go search freecycle for a sewing machine. Any pointers on where to start?

~The first projects I made on a sewing machine were doll clothes and textiles for my room. I know alot of people recommend starting with pillowcases, throw pillows, tableclothes, ect. (basically squares and rectangles)because they're fairly simple. Fabric choice is important. 100% cotton is the easiest fabric to work with. I used to think ironing fabric and pressing seams as I went was a waste of time until I started quilt piecing and learned that it really makes a difference in the end product. One of the biggest things to teach yourself is a non-perfectionist attitude. I've been sewing for over 15 years and I learned pretty quickly that projects don't go perfectly and something will always go wrong. You just learn to say "Oh well" and hope no-one notices the crooked seams! And read, read, read! I'm so encouraged to see other people interested in sewing! Sometimes I feel like I'm on a little island all alone.~

~Thanks everyone! I don't own alot of sewing books but I've read and done projects from over 100 library books. One of the books that I read when I was first starting to make clothes was a book written in the 70's by hippies. It explained how you could 'make' patterns by copying items already in your wardrobe. I took that idea and I'm still running with it!~
