Default I'm on an apron kick right now...

Friday I made a full bib apron and yesterday a half apron. Both aprons were from material given to me. One is a pillowcase I recycled into an apron. The other was straight yardage from a friend who was moving. I'm feeling pretty motivated! I have a few older pillowcases without and with mates that could be remade into gifts for family and friends.

Great for You! I wear a cook's apron each and every day. Is that the same as a bib apron? I was able to pick both of them up at bag sales in the last years. I love aprons they are the most practicle thing in the kitchen. They save time and money! I'm so surpised that they went out of style, seem to be making a comeback....in my world 4 sure.

Jean, I forgot to ask you if you have seen the shirt apron? They are large sleveless shirt style aprons with 3-4 large buttons and 2 large pockets. I used to give them away are gifts. With mix and match fabrics they can be really fun to make.

You just inspired me to put to use my lab coats. Maybe I'll tie-dye them so that I don't look like a mad scientist in the kitchen

I love wearing aprons. I once even made one out of a pair of jeans and some siver ribbon and sparkle all over it. I never wore it for cooking but I was my favorite one.

i've been thinking of making a half apron. (the full doesnt appeal to me personally). but i dont know how.
i have no sewing machine (actually no place to have one, so i cant get one)... so it'd have to be done by hand. all i have are a bunch of old clothes that no one wants/wears (we were thinking of donating)... and i'm sure i could make something out of a stranded pillow case.

    can you help me out?

I don't know if a bib apron is the same as a cook's apron. I guess it's kind of a fancy BBQ apron...you have the gathered skirt, with a front part attached to go over the chest.

No, I've never seen a shirt apron. that sounds interesting! I don't have any of my shirts to get rid of, but DH has some...he just decluttered his closet... hmmm...another internet search coming up.

I got all my apron patterns from a website for free. I can't give the link, but google...Tipnut.com and look for the post "56 Free Apron Patterns You Can Make" posted on Nov. 24, 2007. Hope that give you enough information to get there. From there, there are links to lots of free patterns.

Good luck! This morning I'm making cloth napkins from a thrift store linen tablecloth...$3 for 8 napkins PLUS the edge was a modern manufactured drawn thread 2" wide hem. I cut it off to use for apron ties...of course!

I have a large quilt I'm currently working on and when I finish it I plan on making some aprons.

I love my aprons. I have a variety of styles. I love the aprons with no bib even though I do have 4 of those. Most of mine are calf length due to me wearing long skirts and dresses.

I've never seen the Angry Chicken website before. It is awesome! More ideas to stir the creative juices...

I cracked out my moving box of blue jeans to be recycled (Yep, I have a whole moving box full of them.) today and pulled out a largish pair for a blue jean BBQ apron. Also found part of a medieval Viking costume in there! Huh?! Anyway, will finish the costume for DH, and embark on the apron...

Angry Chicken is the author of Bend The Rules Sewing Book by the way.

Awesome book for a newbie or even an old pro!

I posted about Heather Bailey studio but her site is great too.

Heather Bailey's site is just lovely. I love her studio! I chose the same colours for mine. But I wasn't adventurous enough to put them on the walls! I have green and pink everywhere though...sigh...wish DH would let me do the walls...sigh...oh well...too much work to move everything anyway.

Finished the Viking costume...onto the blue jean apron today...
