Serious Question... Need Help Fast...
Can anyone help me. I have to go to my bosses house and repair a hole that their beloved dog put in the front of their couch tomorrow. I have repaired things all my life but never for someone else. Ya know, it counts. They are not only my bosses but my friends.
I will lift up the back and cut a piece of material from the back. I think it will match as it is not real faded. It is a shade of green. Not dark but not bright. Material is similar to chenille but heavy. It has a chenille pattern.
My question is, isn't there a certain stitch that you use when you are mending? It has been too long.
I am planning to take the piece of material I cut off the back (un-noticiable incase they ever want to turn the couch) tuck it under the hole and hand stich around it. However, I think I will have to turn under the material around the whole so that it does not appear frad. Should I turn under the material and sew it first and make a nice hem or do the hem and sew the scrap to it at the same time?
Should I cut a bigger hole and make it more square or cicular so that it has even edges.
I would appreciate any help.
I also have to take apart the back of the cushion and rearrange the foam and fill in where the man sits as he is heavier and has moved the foam around. I think I can do that ok. I have all of my special needles and thimbles ready!. lol
They love their little dog so much but have learned to keep him outside when they are at work. He has anxiety over them leaving and eats their furniture.
He came to them as a stray 2 days after their dog of 17 years passed away. They didn't want him but he sure wanted them and we all knew that their little "Prissy" had sent him to them. So now we just have to fix the evidence that he was a puppy. lol
I know TMI (too much information) lol, I am a bit of a rambler if you get me going. LOL"Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."

I don't know anything about mending. I just wanted to say good luck to you. You'll do fine.

try a blind stitch. i think that would be the best one. very very small stitches though. they are going to have to be tiny.
i think you can get away with the hole the size it is if you just stitch your new matrial to the inside of the hole. Do you know what i am saying. sorry i can't be more help but let us know how it goes.

Dolphin you are a sweetie to be doing this for them. I'm sure that whatever you do, it will look way better than a gaping hole.
No matter how skilled, it is still a repair, so don't beat yourself up if it's not perfect, nobody could get it perfect.

Thank you everyone. I didn't get to do it today but I will try tomorrow.
They are having 19 people over for her Mom's 90th birthday in 2 weeks so I gotta get to it.
I personally think the blind hem stitch will work too. Thanks. BTW. they have gray duct tape over the hole right now. LOL"Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."
