Remodeling clothes into maternity clothes
My best friend is unexpectedly pregnant. We are looking at what we have around that can be remodeled into maternity clothes for her.
We have a pair of black pants. We also have some stretchy black pants. Can I just cut the tummy section off the pants and sew on a section of the stretchy pants?
She is a larger woman and I think I need to do a couple panels of the stretchy pants over her tummy to give baby enough room to grow. Will the extra seams be uncomfortable for her tummy?
Thanks for the help!Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

It should be ok -- the extra seams should not be a problem. You can buy just the stretch inserts for maternity pants -- so you may want to buy one or at least take a look at one, so see how it works.

When I was pregnant I didn't really use maternity clothes. Is her guy bigger than her??? If not can she find a close friend or family member that is. Hit them up for big T-shirts, sweaters, sweats, and men's dress shirts. You can generally find men's stuff pretty cheap at a thrift store, especially a church thrift store or clothing bank and it's cut much wider. When I needed something dressy I wore an elastic banded skirt with one of the guys solid dress shirts (tails out). No one ever realized I'd raided hubbys closet for all my maternity clothes except for the 2 skirts I thrift stored and a pair of maternity pants I was given as a gift. I gained 80+ lbs with the first one and 70+ with the second one. Both times I was well over 200 at 5'1'' so I was no small thing with just a belly.
