Ideas needed please for knit fabrics
I've been cleaning out my closets and drawers and have a pile of old stretch leggings that aren't decent enough to donate and yet have a good bit of knit fabric that I hate to waste.
I can sew the basics but am at a loss at what I can do with the knits.
Any ideas or things I should be aware of when sewing knits?
Thank you in advance,
Ceashels

Hmm... You could do color blocking with the good sections, make up a larger piece then cut out.
Knits are quite simple to workwith. But if you don't have a serger or lockstitch, I suggest using a zigzag for the seams. This will allow to stretch as it is meant to.

~Leg warmers, wrist warmers, hair scrunchies, headbands, strips to use tying up plants, cut down smaller for kids, and cotton knits make great hankies. HTH!~

The leggings would make quick and easy purse or tote bag handles. I've taken the idea of making purses out of blue jeans (cutting the legs short and sewing up the bottoms to form the bottom of the purse) one step further and I now use shorts made of other fabrics (kids size shorts make cute little purses) and T-shirts make cute larger bags similar to tote bags and you can run a drawstring through the 'tunnel' on the neckline that has been turned over and stitched.
I've also used belts I've found at thrift stores (our Goodwill sells belts for 60 cents a piece).Kim

Thank you for all the ideas. It never crossed my mind to make leg warmers and it is the perfect thing to keep the bugs off my legs when I am gardening/harvesting because I get eaten alive. I think I'll make that pair a thigh high! This way I can have a pair on the porch to slip on when I go out into the garden!
Awesome!!! Awesome!!! Awesome!!!

A sachel for say... your yoga mat (if you have one)
An oblong bag used to stuff your plastic bags into. Sew elastic on one end... tie on the other - hang on a knob.
I cut my mom's leggings (she was a knit legging lady) and paired it up with a matching shirt. I had twelve outfits.
I cut them into pieces and made a quilt for each of my siblings and my dad (9 quilts). It IS a sewable fabric. Although I have a serger, I didn't use it for this - because it was being quilted.
Anyway, I love the ideas here as well. If all else fails and the knit is 100% cotton- a polishing rag comes to mind.
Happy sewing!
