    Default Calling all seamstresses

Ok, I have a dilemna. In my latest thrift store bag sale booty I got a gorgeous Sandy Starkman skirt and jacket. The jacket is an XL which fits just fine, the skirt is a L but when compared to the other L skirts I have is closer to or even smaller than some M's, in the waistband. The skirt is made of strips of really sheer, pastel, floral fabrics (done in vertical strips). The strips are bigger at the bottom, being tapered down to much more narrow strips near the waistband. The skirt is lined but not attached except at the waistband. My problem is that I really, really love this set. The skirt is long so I'm thinking that I could cut it off at the waistband (oh there is a zipper there too, on the side) and either make a drawstring waist (it won't show with a short cami over it) or use seam binding of a coordinating color to make another waistband. I think I'll have to take off 2-3 inches to make it fit. Sssooo can I just measure down say 2 inches, mark off with pins and sew around the top (b/c the strips won't be anchored by anything) and then cut off, try on and then add the seam binding? Or is there something else I need to do? I don't have a serger (darn it) so that's not an option. I really want to salvage it, but if I can't wear it I'll make the skirt into sheer curtains for my bathroom.....I'd much rather have the skirt though....it's really nice. I'll take a few quick pix and post in the gallery.

    Ok, here's the skirt:

    Any suggestions?

~Sounds like it would work to me but I tend to cut first and ask questions later, ha! BTW I love drawstring skirts. They're super comfy!~
