WE're having a clouds + sun day (sunny the whole time I took my walk, though!).

I saw some finches while I was out weed wacking (with a hand held non electric weeding tool that you swing back and forth?) Preeeeetttty yellow.

    Otherwise, it's quiet out there.

I saw my cat smack the crap out of a raccoon on our deck tonight. lol

I couldn't believe my cat scared it away and no way was it taken their food. Funny stuff.

Sitting in the swing on the back porch this morning and watching a hummingbird darting in and out of the Trumpet Vine and Foxglove. This afternoon sitting on front steps with DH and watching the honey bees on the clover. It's nice to see the honey bees coming back.

I've noticed alot more bees this summer too, happy to see them. Butterflies are numerous too. Love watching them flit around and enjoy seeing the cat doing acrobatics trying to catch them.

I'm envious of your trumpet vine. I bought one 6 years ago & it has never bloomed, great green color leaves but no blooms. I read about how prolific they are & I am so jealous.
Yesterday there was an eagle that spent about 5 minutes sitting on a rock in the creek in front of our house, so so neat. We've been seeing more & more of them the past couple years (lately a few times a week) & I'll always be in awe.

I have 2 windows that I look out of and see different things. When I am sitting at my desk looking out to my front yard, every now and then a humming bird will peak in and look at me! LOL I have one of those HUGE hostas out that window and he likes the purple flowers on it. I had a hummingbird feeder in my basement, so I'm going to put that out there tonight to see if it will bring more! They are so cute.

Out of my dining area window, I have a tree that I put a flat bird feeder in. I put all kinds of things in there, left over bread, nuts, a spoiled apple, etc. I get all kinds of critters out there, mostly bluejays and other little birds. I put some old bread out there yesterday morning and it was gone by night! They were hungry! I also call this window my kitty television, the cat likes to sit there and watch all the birds.

Today (monday) is rainy, drizzly, very dark and cloudy.

A good day for some housework.

What a nice start to my day. Dh had the binoculars out & I asked him what he was looking at and he handed them to me. A beautiful Egret (snowy white) was standing on our big rock in the creek. I took a couple pics (sorry, not very clear)but had to take them from our porch since I didn't want to spook it. So I got those, bird flew & I came inside & was editing them when dh went to leave with the dog for a walk and I noticed 3 of them in the same area. How cool is that?! I very rarely see 1 let alone 3. Woohoo. I'd have taken pics of them but they flew away.

Reminds me...The other day I was reading outside after dinner when there was this huge loud SQUAWK from a Blue Heron as an Eagle dive bombed it. Guess the Eagle didn't like someone on his turf.

    Beautiful pics, Darlene.

We have a Robin living in our tree in our front yard. It loves to sit in our front window and I love to watch him. My son always screams birdie, birdie, birdie when it's there.

Sorry Darlene, I'm not ignoring you. I've been working 12 hour shifts again and the long hours in all the heat doesn't leave much desire to do anything but eat and sleep. I love this thread and have been itching to get back here. The Trumpet Vine is nice for the birds but a pain to control, very invasive. We also noticed a lot more butterflies. Now let's see, Monday just as the sun was starting to peek through the fog I spied a single lightning bug on a leaf of our cherry tree outside the dining area. Talk about an awesome shot, and of course I'm not a photographer so I missed a great pic. Wednesday I was getting ready to go out to the back porch and just as I was reaching for the door knob I saw a humming bird hovering at the door window and he was watching me. He buzzed around the feeder for a few seconds and then he landed right on the clothes line I have rigged up between the support beams on the deck roof. He sat there for almost 2 mintues and then darted off. A few minutes later he and his mate were playing peeping toms at the dining room window. Their nest is in a tree about 20 feet away.
