Isn't "simple living" what you make it? Personal development, mindfulness, self-purpose? I guess I see building a house (even a 3000sqft house, especially a 3000sqft house!!) with your own hands out of recycled/repurposed material, living off the grid, growing 40% of their own food living a simple life. Not *the* simple life. *A* simple life.

What a wonderful life to have! I think the shelves of home-canned food look delicious!

I really like the house and the idea. Very cool.

I had to wonder though--who dusts all of those jars of canned goods? LOL!

"Douglass, his wife and three young children live with no electricity, no car and no running water on a 160-acre farm in Hermon. They can get by on $6,000 a year, he said."

Wow, that is what I call dedication.

That's an impressive house, and I wish Dh and I could do something like that. I would love to see more of the inside of the house. Thanks for sharing that.

Goes to show that good things can happen if you take your time and not "have" to keep up with the Jones'... I admire him and his family for a wonderful thing they have done and continue to do.

WOW that was a great article. I would love to be near him and talk to him. I also wish that we could do more than we currently are.

I think that kind of thing is SOOOO cool! And I want to weigh in on the side of the clutter-likers. I actually am more comfortable slightly crowded and with a bit of clutter than in a more pristine environment. Makes me feel cozy.

Thank you for posting this article. He is an inspiration to what I would like to have someday! What a beautiful house-even with the clutter. Too much "stuff" for me.
