This man is my hero
And he lives just a few miles down the road.
King of Scrounge
He makes me hopeful that a truly simple life IS possible in today's world.

I Love the "round house" but I would need to make the walls solid if i had that much stuff sitting in front of them. I found it visually cluttered because of the circles built into the walls. It seemed to take away from the awesomeness of the canned goods they put up.

That is so cool!
I would love to do something like that. I have been working on dh for a while about buying some land while it's still cheap and then gradually building. He is not sure that he can do that, but I know he can, he is just unsure of his skill! lol

That is so cool. I too would need a cleaner less cluttered look or I would go nuts BUT BUT BUT I think this guy is wonderful and so smart to be able to do this and provide so well for less for his family.
I also have to give his wife kudos for going along with the idea. If your dh came home and said I am going to build you a house out of garbage honey what would you think????LOL!
Great article.

I love his stairs and the beautiful jars of canned food everywhere! We didn't build our home, it was an extreme fixer upper (and extremely cheap), but we've done all the work ourselves with found or salvaged materials so I'm pretty proud of that. We plan on doing it all over again on a larger piece of land in a few years.

Kudos to him for reclaiming and re-purposing other people's junk, but I'd hardly call a 3,000 sq. ft. house embracing the simple life.
