Simple ways to make your guests feel welcome?

I enjoy displaying fresh cut flowers and having candies in dishes to help make company feel welcome. What are some things you like to do to help make your guests feel welcome?

Simmering Potpourri and fresh baked cookies......

Sometimes when they surprise me, I make them feel at home with that "lived in look" to my house.........

I don't have guest so i don't do anything interesting or special. I do have potpurri in my bathroom does that count.

I have those cute paper guest towels that look like big napkins in the bathroom. I also make sure the entry way and living room are clean so they can come on in and sit down. I also like to keep an assortment of drinks on hand to offer them.

I keep a basket in the guest room with new toothbrush, deo, box of tissues, moisturizer soap etc, all the things they might have forgotten but might not want to ask for. Also, I leave nice fluffy towels and a new bathpuff on the bed for them.

I don't often have guests that stay over but for guests that come for a meal, I love having candles burning, using my special dishes and making my home feel relaxing and comforting.

I love to put a couple of interesting books in the bathroom, along with pretty soap. I also love playing soft, soothing music when they are here.

One thing I will say is I love doing this also for my family. I use to just do special things when guests came and one day it hit me. My family is important also. My little ones love to have meals by candlelight and to have scented candles burning at night. They love soothing music.

Cj what a great idea. We have supper in the dining room every night and i never think of candles. I will have to do this for them. you are right family is important.

Cj, I haven't done that in far too long.... we do often have picnics on the livingroom floor ...... Thanks for reminding us !!!!!!!!

We generally have our guests here during the holidays so I always make sure they have soft flannel sheets and a down comforter on their bed. I also have a small christmas tree in the spare rooms. A spa like bathroom for them and plenty of books on simplicity and other interesting stuff to read. Plenty of homemade goodies and a big pot of comforting soup in case they get hungry a little later. Candles and soft throws over the sofa and chairs are always avaliable here. Pretty much everthing I do on a regular basis for my family.

I am a cnadle person. I used to buy candles and never light them, just sort of collect them, the bad thing was that the candles did all the collecting ...Dust!!! Now I light candles when ever anyone is expected. One night I had the whole house lit up. I was waiting for the President of our neighborhood association to come and bring me an application for a grant for home restoration (pray for me) and the boys asked "are you trying to date him?" Now I wonder are candles too dopey?

I love to burn candles as well. I never thought of a gift basket of those little things that might have forgotten. That is a good idea Jerseygirl!
