OMG... Did anyone watch this? It was like watching a train wreck. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did.

It was horrible...women with 6 kids doesn't use tt, they use homemade wipes out of fannel, etc. and she washes them. they have been using the same wipes for five years! One guy digs in garbage for wife's 25th anniv. present...dead flowers...gives her a card that she rec'd from a friend when she wasn't feeling well. He crossed off "get well" and put "happy anniv." crossed off friends name and wrote his name...AND when they go out to dinner, he takes the leftovers home -----FROM OTHER PEOPLE PLATES....I am talking strangers!!! Yuck yuck yuck...and she stayed married to him for 25 yrs...what is wrong with her???? He married her so he could get dental work done....married her on Tuesday I think he said and had his dental work done on Wednesday....I was speechless!!!! then another guy rode his bike 20 miles to scrounge for money so he could buy meat for dinner that nite....he purchased 2 goat heads!! His wife wouldn't eat it....Obviously they don't have a stockpile.....I believe in being frugal...but these guys are wayyyyyyyyyyy beyond frugal.......they are beyond CHEAP!!!!IMO I would say sick.

A husband went up to diner patrons & asked for their leftovers-while the wife cringed. All the patrons said yes & shook their heads while he walked away. He also dumpster dived. One guy "bartered" for everything.. poetry for a bakery roll. But also spent 1800 for his wedding, which would have cost 22,000, if he paid for it & not bartered. One lady uses cloth toilet paper & showed her cutting out squares. And also picked wild greens in the public park for the supper salad. (While telling her kids not to step in dog poop) One husband & wife does a week of no spending, I don't remember how often, but all their married life & he has retired early because of money saved. He also was a scanvenger of coins, esp around phone booths, diner booth seats-yes, he sat in each seat & used his hands to feel around for coins. He also went to a laundrymat & asked the owner to look between machines & under for coins. Also took the lint home & made fire starters for his fireplace. I'm probably forgetting some of it. Interesting!

Sounds like yet another show exploiting the mentally ill. Guess I'll be skipping that one, too. Thanks for the warning!

I highly doubt the guy doing poetry in the donut shop, the man singing opera for a cake & the dude taking out trash at the salon for a free trim would ever get these things minus the tv crew with them. It's called free advertising for the establishment, not cuz you did a song & dance.

Well, after reading the comments about the show, I will not be watching this. Shows like this are kind of useless. I believe Amy D had said something to a news reporter after the Parade article came out about her - something to the effect "so you want to watch me fold cloth diapers, or wash the dishes, or any one of the other tiny little chores that saves us money?" And their answer was no. They wanted BIG things, outrageous acts of saving money. That is what the TV show is - outrageous acts of people getting their 15 minutes of fame.

No thanks, I do not plan to watch.

Just wondering, do any of those folks make money from being on the show?

    I would think they would.

Reality — I am Neither Extreme nor am I a Cheapskate

Here is a blogger that was filmed for the show but had here segment cut. She wasn't extreme enough.

She mentioned 2 14 hour days. I guess that was for filming.

I only got to watch the last half. I kept thinking of FV . Many of the "Extreme" ideas have been mentioned here.

Cloth TP? Yep mentioned that some her at FV do that.

Looking for change? Yep mentioned here all the time ( I personally was amazed at how much he found. Not that much to be found here where I live to many people change looking and normally it is only pennies on the ground and usually tail side up superstition on the part of some here)

Bartering - yep mentioned here too. ( I'm betting the man on the show barter more tangible skills for his wedding. and I bet some was in liue of gifts as his best friend was a singer in a group that sang at the wedding.) all things mentioned her.

spending fasts - yep mentioned here on FV before

Now the goat head was odd but he did say he loved organ meats and he did ask the butcher for more standard ones first like liver and heart.

I kind of liked the show.

I have this show recorded to watch later with DH. He saw the title on the tv guide and proclaimed "They made a show about me?!"

Judging from the reviews here - he may be rescinding that statement.

Oh, how did we ever live w/o the TLC?!

The man singing for his wedding cake also gave her free tickets to his show. that might have even been a dollar for dollar trade. I can see that being valid bartering even without the camera crew.

The man at the store said he liked the boy's work ethic working for his hair cut and would let him do it again. I know store owners here who would do the same although they would see it as charity more so then bartering.
