The Sensuality of Simplicity
Were all looking at vacations coming up and for many of us, we wonder why we take a vacation. By the time we get home, were more tired than when we left. We find that especially if we've gone to visit relatives, where everyone wants to see you "at their place".
Here is a paragraph taken from The Simple Living Guide in regards to vacations.
Have you ever taken a vacation like this? Would you even want to take a vacation like this or do you prefer to be busy the whole time your vacationing?Plan your next vacation so you can immerse yourself deeply in one place. Pick an area rich with the kind of sensations that are invigorating to you, then resist the urge to run all over when you get there, trying to take in as much as possible. Instead, slow down and deeply inhale the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of your new place. See if you don't return home refreshed and renewed, the way you've always wanted to feel.
We won't be taking a vacation this summer because dh doesn't get one until later in the year, but this is the type of vacation I want. YOU?

I would love a vacation like that! When we were little my Mom and Dad rented a cottage for one week each summer. I remember those days with the fondest of memories and Mom tells me that we all had such a good time....we took our own food, me and my brothers had fun swimming in the lake, fishing, just "playing" and Mom and Dad got to relax. I never once thought, oh I wish we were at this amusement park, show, whatever.
We won't be taking a vacation this year either. Day trips are the plan for this summer and enjoying our pool.

Heather, when our older kids were in their early teens, we rented a cabin as well. Both times we did that, we were where we had no tv, no phones, battery operated radio and we had the time of our lives. The kids still talk about those cabins and how much fun they had.
We'd walk on nature trails, pick blue berries and swim in water holes. Great memories and very simple times.

Sounds wonderful CJ! Yes, without all the phones, radio, headphones etc.....it sure would be peaceful.
I just remembered something else....Dad used to drive us to the local dump near the cabins and we would watch the bears!

This is the kind of vacation I take each year. We go to see my parents at the lake and just veg!!! In the past years, Mom and Dad have rented us a little A frame cabin to stay in, but now that their home there is finished we'll just stay there. I spend most of my time just enjoying the beauty of the mountains, smelling the fresh air, kayaking or canoeing on the lake and taking it all in. I am constantly in awe of the beauty that God has created. It is a place that I go to to heal and calm my spirit.

When our kids were little and right up to their teens we took driving or camping holidays so we could show them this great country of ours. Like CJ's kids, my boys still talk about the holidays they had when they were younger.

Yes, that would be the best vacation.....

We rented a cabin, too, 10 years and it was the best vacation we ever had...no phone, no tv....the view in front of a lake, the forest...
We would go to the lake--5 minutes by car--playing in the water, lying in the sand...reading...
It was so relaxing...and you know, the two older boys still remember and said they loved it when we rented that cabin...
I just love the being in the woods...I grew up spending all my summers, from 4 yrs. old to 17 yrs. at my parents' summer home, which is now their permanent home.

When we were kids that is the type of vacation we always went on. Camping, swimming, boating etc.... I wouldn't mind doing that in the least now either.
But Jack on the other hand will have absolutly NOTHING to do with camping in any way shape or form so we stay in motels/hotels. Now when we go I want to be busy every minute doing something as I am NOT on vacation to sit in a motel/hotel room! I could stay home and have a comfortable bed to sleep in and get something done!

omg this is exactly like Dave and me. I hate travelling somewhere and sleeping the whole time. Yes, we should be relaxing, but I could be sleeping at home!Originally posted by SewCrafty
