what's for breakfast?
I'm reading a book about the rituals of everyday ordinary french people. I read about breakfast this morning and it got me thinking about the different breakfast rituals around the world.
When I worked and even now, I have tea and toast - usually with vegemite and occasionally I might have an egg on toast or maybe baked beans. I always have tea and sometimes fresh juice. We sit at the table - DH and I, and we talk; if I'm alone, I'll read, talk to my dogs and plan what I'm doing that day.
The french have a bowl of coffee - I'd love to drink from a coffee bowl - and toasted baguette with jam. They rarely drink straight milk, only children drink milk there and they have their coffee strong. Part of their morning ritual is to NEVER watch TV, they use the time to prepare mentally for their day and to talk to their children.
When I lived in germany we had coffee and fresh bread and jam as well - it must be where the term "continential breakfast" comes from.
What's your morning ritual? Do you watch TV, talk or sit in a daze waiting for the coffee to start you up? What do you eat and drink? Is your breakfast routine the same when you're on vacation?

coffee, first and foremost.
I like hot or cold cereal with milk and a very occaisional egg.
When I'm not dieting I like making homemade waffles or pancakes, biscuits or muffins.

UGH-- I hate breakfast. My body might be up and moving at 4:30 AM, but my stomach is s till asleep until 9:00.
Then I have toast and peanut butter, or oatmeal, or a granola bar- depending on if I'm home, at work or on the run.
On vacation we eat hearty breakfasts-- sausage/biscuits and gravy. . . . pancakes, bacon. . . etc.

When I was in college and had morning classes, I alway's stopped at the bakery on campus and got a bagel w/cream cheese and either a french vanilla cap. or a soda depending on if it was hot or cold (either way I had to have caffeine)
Now we hardly eat breakfast. I do have some milk, cereal, oj, bagels and cream cheese on hand most of the time. but usually it ends up being breakfast from McDonalds the 2 mornings a week Joe isnt' working. Sadly, those are about the only day's we eat breakfast.
Most of the time the cereal we have gets eaten in the evening as a snack....lol

Everybody gets up at different times & eats various things.
Sunday if I get up early enough Jack & I will have grits and sit at the kitchen table together. He'll have coffee & I'l have tea.
Other days he'll have hot cereal & coffee before leaving for work.
I'll have either omelet, cold cereal, rice cakes with pb&J,sometimes leftovers.
. Today I had leftover *breakfast pizza and ice tea. If I'm alone I eat as I'm looking over posts in the Village.
*Breakfast pizza consists of dough, bacon, eggs & cheese. I top mine with salsa and some mild hot sauce.~*Darlene*~

During the week, I usually have the tv and computer on while I'm getting ready for work. Breakfast could be a bowl of oatmeal, an apple, toast or some cereal and a cup or 2 of tea, some juice and maybe a glass of water. I watch the tv to catch up on the news and of course I have to check my email before I leave the house. Mike usually leaves before me, so we only have breakfast together on the weekends.
