    Default my daily pix #7

I went to another town further over on the coast to do our store banking today. The town is called Buderim. It used to be a small village with the main purpose of ginger farming. Now the big corporations have taken over the town, the village atmosphere is gone and it's just like any other place now. It's sad when supermarkets and huge corporations can have such an effect on our lives.

This is the town's main street. That's my little silver car in the foreground.

    There are two pix today.

I'd stopped at the traffic lights and noticed these kids in their school uniforms selling badges with a supervisor. I thought you might find kids in uniforms interesting as I believe your kids don't wear school uniforms.
There is a boy, a girl in the middle (behind the post grrr) with the supervisor.

Bethany, are uniforms for every students even in public schools? Here, at Francois' school, they are having serious discussions for having a school uniform next year. Usually in Quebec, only private schools have uniforms, but public schools are starting to have them. I think it's a great idea, too. No discrimination on who wears what.

Glad you were stopped at a light to take that pic of the schoolkids. Safety first.
Can't wait to see where we go or what's doing tomorrow.
Have I told you how much I enjoy these pics?

I love your pics Bethany. I see you have to paralell park on the main street. I avoid paralell parking at all costs!, lol.

Is that boy wearing a hat? Are hats required for boys with their uniforms? Does each school wear a different type uniform or do all schools wear the same?

Thanks for the pics. Very interesting to see another part of the world.

I'm so pleased that you're all enjoying this thread.

With the school uniforms, it's compulsory for every school child to wear a uniform to school - both private and public. The private uniforms are more formal and the pic above shows private school kids in their winter uniform. In summer the girls would wear a cotton dress, socks, black leather shoes and a sun hat and the boys would wear shorts and shirt - no tie in summer, socks, black leather shoes and a sun hat.

Public schools are more casual. Their uniforms are long pants, shirt and sweater in winter - girls can wear the same if they like or a skirt, and in summer they wear shorts or the girls wear a cotton or polycotton uniform dress. They can wear any shoes they like.

When my kids were in school they went to a private school in the tropics where they had to wear navy blue shorts all year with a white shirt, white socks and black leather shoes. They had a formal uniform too which included a tie, long pants and a jacket. When they were in grades 11 and 12 they had to wear long pants instead of shorts.

All school kids here have to wear hats if they want to play in the playground and they have access to free sunscreen in their classrooms.

I love these pictures. It is very interesting to see daily life somewhere I don't live. Thanks so much for doing this. I think it is fascinating! Keep em coming.
