my daily pix #10
I picked tomatoes this morning. There is nothing that I like better than feeling warm home grown tomatoes in my hand and smelling the unique smell of a tomato bush. That sums up gardening for me - that feel and that smell.
I try to pick my tomatoes while they are still green because if I let them stay on the vine until they are ruby red, a bug comes along and sucks the juice from them. Ack!
I brought them inside and sorted them on my kitchen bench. Some very red ones went into a bowl for storage in the fridge, I'll make tomato and chili jam with them soon. The others were sorted into their degree of ripeness and left in a flat basket on the bench. What we don't eat fresh will go towards relish or chutney when they're ripe enough.
These tomatoes are the best I've grown so far. They're called "First prize" and the taste sends me back to days in my grandma's backyard when I was a little girl with a big sister and everything was right in the world. Those were very happy days for me because I didn't know about terrorism, cruelty and people dying of hunger.
The only problem that I've found with "First Prize" toms is that they must be fully ruby red ripe before you can be hit with their wonderful taste. If there is even a hint of pink skin, they tend to be a bit hard and tasteless. But waiting for the right moment with these little beauties will send you to heaven and back.

Yum! They look like red & green gems. I agree with you on that tomato smell.
Mine are all spread out on a waterproof cloth on the diningroom table to ripen and make me smile every time I walk past.~*Darlene*~

Kimmee, under the message box in the new thread window there is a box for "attach file" with a "browse" button next to it. Press "browse" and find the file on your computer that you want to post. When you pick it you will see the file name in the "attach file" box. then just post as normal.

Mmmm Bethany those look great
My favourite treat when I can get fresh from the garden tomatoes is a toasted tomato sandwich with mayonnaise and pepper.

I love those tomatoes. I wish I had room to grow some. I love having tomato sandwiches too, but I have just tomato, bread, and mayo. Yummy! I just love these pictures!

I'm pleased you're liking the pictures, Heather. It's turned into a journal of sorts, although my original intention was to just post a pic and a couple of lines. There have been many positive comments so even though it's a pain to take pics on some days, I'll continue posting them because of the positive comments.
