In simple terms...You go to the store and find out that a product you constantly have to buy that is normally $3.00 is on sale for $1.50, so you have an "ha-ha!" moment and pick up 2 knowing you just got those 2 for the price you normally only get 1, then you think "Oh hey wait! If I get another 2 that will be like me buying 2 at the regular $3 price and getting 2 free. So you pick up 4. You go home, place 2 where you usually place them knowing they will get used fairly quickly and place the other 2 aside somewhere else. You have now just started a stockpile on the items you always have to buy but find at great deals.
Some people call it stockpiling, some call it keeping a pantry, some don't even think of it as anything other than they just picked up an few extra items at the store with sales, coupons or extra money. Whatever you call it, or how you want to look at it, it's a good habit to start.

It's having extras in stock on your shelves.
It's having extras of things (mostly non perishables) that I normally use bought at a good price.
I buy them at that good price so I don't need to spend more next time I need them, plus if there is a time I can't get to the store I will have extras of things and can throw easy meals together.
It's about saving money and having a little extra around in case of need.
Think: Run out of toothpaste, no worry I've got lots practially free by using coupons. It's not going to go bad on me before I use it up so I store it on this shelf and keep using my stash as I need. Keep it dated and you can add more to your stockpile when you catch anther great deal and use up the oldest of the bunch first.Last edited by Darlene; 10-09-2008 at 03:57 PM.

Simple terms?
It's a way of increasing household good supplies to a level where in case of financial hardship, you're still able to eat and take care of basic necessities. In other words, it's buying extra of what you use every day in order to live.

thanks ladies!
it was one of those situations where my mind went blank and i had no idea how to explain it. lol
but of course most of the people I'm trying to explain it to will be asking next month how to make the most of their dollars and complaining that foods expensive...they can't find the sales, and on and on...Last edited by santoria; 10-13-2008 at 01:12 AM.
