Mission Accomplished! Stockpile complete
My stockpile is complete!
Ok. Maybe they're never really complete. I could add another gallon of vinegar, and item here and there. But everything I planned to have in it is there. I finished up with 36 cans of chicken broth (.33 can) last night on the way home from work - the store had only a few cans when I went by Wednesday night.
OTC meds, supplements, and first aid: done.
Cleaning supplies: done.
Personal items: done.
Food: done.
Miscellaneous, like matches: done.

Now it's just rotate and replenish.Donna

Congratulations!!
Do you mind sharing what kinds of things are in your stockpile? I started a list, but I know I have holes.Last edited by Tightwad Mom; 11-23-2008 at 04:36 PM.

Way to go! I have a long way to go, but I have never sat down and tried to figure out what all I need and how much. Yet. lol!

Wow way to go. I would love to see your list as well if it wasn't to much trouble.
I know it probably would be a lot of trouble though. I know I need to make a list of everything I have but I keep putting it off.
I keep trying to figure out what all I have missing from my stockpile
and I know I have lots of holes in it. Like matches that you mentioned I need matches and BBQ lighters. It would be cool if we could all work together on making a complete list of all the things that we might need.
But to get back to your completed stockpile I am turning
Green with envy

Janbee, I wasn't ignoring your question. I was either off work and not playing around here, or at work and didn't have my list. It will be long, but here goes. It's all standard stuff.
First, it may not look like a very typical stockpile in one regard. I bake so rarely, I don't stockpile (or even keep) some of those ingredients. For example, a bag of flour or sugar will easily last me a year. Instead I just buy mixes when I get a really good deal on them, and keep some of them on hand. We're talking like muffins once a month.
As for how long it will last, I can't say exactly. It wasn't scientifically designed. I basically bought a lot of what I use a lot, some of what I use some, a little of what I use a little. Depending on the item, I would say from 3-4 months to a year (on some of the most used, can't live without things like canned tomatoes - I got them for .33 a can so loaded up.) This is just a list of items, not amounts.
It is WONDERFUL to look at all the grocery flyers and say, nope, don't have to go to the grocery store this week.
Bread/Cereal/Crackers: cornbread mix, rye crisp or wasa type hard bread, taco shells, some cereal, crackers (club, wheat thin and triscuit clones), cheez-it clones, snack crackers (the little packs to take to work)
Pasta, Rice, Beans, Grain: Spaghetti, macaroni shapes, boxed mac and cheese, noodles. Parboiled and brown rice. Many kinds of dried beans, split peas, lentils. Barley. Canned kidney beans and baked beans
Vegetables: Canned - Green beans, corn, creamed corn, diced tomatoes, stewed tomatoes. Frozen - a wider variety, but I tend not to stockpile, since I can always find good prices. Dried potato flakes
Fruit: Canned: peaches, apricots, pineapple tidbits and chunks, mandarin oranges, cocktail. Dried: cranberries, prunes
Condiments: Barbeque sauce, ketchup, sandwich spread, salad dressings, pickles, pickle relish, olives, spaghetti sauce
Things I cook with: beef/chicken/vegetable bouillon, chicken broth, vegetable juice, onion soup mix, dry gravy mixes, tomato paste and sauce, vinegar (balsamic, red wine, cider), soy sauce, worcershire sauce, variety of herbs, dried onion and garlic. Powdered milk, sweetner, oil (small quantity).
Canned Soup: Tomato, cream of chicken, canned ready to eat (emergency work rations)
Miscellaneous food: Peanut butter, jam/jelly, tuna, almonds, walnuts, sesame seed, sunflower kernals, cashews. A few frozen dinners/lasagna to grab for work if I don't have leftovers or time to prepare anything.
Dairy: Block and shredded cheddar and swiss, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan-Romano, butter/margarine
Drinks: Coke clones, tea (black, green, white), cocoa, cystal lite clones, some water.
Sweets: Muffin mix, pudding mix, jello, pudding cups (only because I got a great almost free price on them - good for work)
Meat: I keep a $2 pound limit with a few exceptions, what I have depends on sales. Right now: chicken breast, beef roasts and hamburger, pork loin, ham, smoked sausage, regular sausage, bacon.
I have other things right now that normally I don't keep, but I got excellent deals on: pudding cups, rice/pasta side mixes, refrigerated cookie dough, refrigerated buicuits/pizza crust. Other things that I use only occasionally I may have one or two of, but don't consider them part of the basic stockpile - like honey or mustard. If I ran out, it wouldn't matter since I could live without them forever.
Household/Personal:
Bleach, baking soda, distilled vinegar, dish and laundry detergent, sponges and scrubbers, vacuum cleaner bags, matches
Plastic spoons and forks (for work), paper plates, paper towels, toilet paper, zip lock bags, garbage and trash bags, tissues, foil, plastic wrap
Bandages, hydrogen peroxide, various OTC meds and supplements (in small quantities), larger quantities of those I take on a daily basis.
Soap, shampoo, mousse, hair spray, deoderant, toothpaste, floss, razors.
Again, I have other things that I use occasionally or in smaller quantities that I do not consider part of the basic stockpile.Donna

I wonder if a stockpile is ever complete. I use stuff from the front of it, and put new stuff at the back, then move everything "up" so I'm always using what was first there. That way, stuff never gets old or spoils. I just replenish as needed, or if there's a good sale on.
