My stockpile fell on my stress... and killed it!

Stockpiling is such an essential in a frugal lifestyle. But I'd never really considered it seriously beyond just "stocking up" on whatever was on sale.

But since I've been inspired (and so very well informed) by all of you on how to practically go about it, I've gotten really serious about it. And I finally finished it! Really, my house can't hold any more! Which is a hilarious, as I never thought I'd have to dust my food.

And hey presto, just like magic... no more ulcers!
(You all have my truly heartfelt thanks!)

And without the stress of trying to figure out all the "little things" I needed to pay for each week, balancing the budget got way easier.

I "found" an extra hundred dollars a week. I knew that stockpiling would save me some money, but I always sort of saw it as saving me money at some future date when I didn't have any money to spend. (lay-off, job loss, injury, etc.)

But once my stockpile was in place, it's as if the entire world handed me a golden pass to a perpetual 40% off sale on EVERYTHING. I can always wait until whatever I need goes on sale which means I never have to pay full price.

And I rarely ever have to "run to the store" for something. This alone probably accounts for $30 a week. Not to mention the savings in gas.

So now I can save even more money towards the EF and other major expenses (currently replacing the furnace). Which makes me feel even more secure and stress free.

    Thank you ALL!

Awesome! Good job. I have somewhat of a stockpile...But living in a tiny apartment, I'm kinda limited to space! It's great to know that you always have enough food on hand!

That's great, and it is a lot of hard work! How long did it take you to complete your stockpile?

I still end up doing it once in a while for eggs and onions (we eat an enormous amount of onions), but I just go straight to produce and back out again, thus skipping all the expensive aisles.

I've been working at it seriously since February of this year. About $50/week so that I could LOOT the loss leaders and sales.

I have to say the hardest part was finding a way to organize and store it all. We ended up converting a good sized broom closet into a pantry. And special thanks to whoever put up the list on the door method of keeping track of it all! Before that I couldn't find anything, even though I knew I had it somewhere.

I stockpile powdered whole eggs, egg whites, and egg yolks. I use powdered whole eggs when they are less expensive than shell eggs, which is often in the winter months. I also use dehydrated onions (dehydrate them yourself after a great harvest or great sale on them, or use dried onions from the store, which are very inexpensive). I also grow chives in the garden as well as inside in the winter, so chives are used for many things onions would be. Now you won't even need to go to the store for eggs or onions!!!

Nice job. Another stockpile perk that I love is the savings on gas, which BTW is going up again as we speak(type). When everyone is scurrying to the store before the "big one" hits in the winter I go home and don't have to fight the crowds.

Not only gas, but our time. Time is always worth something.
The drive to the store, the parking, the actual shopping and then the unloading, putting away.

    I can't wait until I'm completely stocked.

It amazes me that people don't pick up on stocking up when things are on sale. Most don't realize just how much they save when they don't pay full price and instead plan ahead, sure right now it may only seem like your saving 50 cents but as we all on here have learned its a much much bigger savings. (Also I have read but now tried that you can freeze eggs whole out of the shell. For now I buy 6 or 7 dozen when they are on sale for under a dollar and we use them before the date on there )
