The very best thing about my stockpile....
...is that I never HAVE to go grocery shopping. I planned a big shopping trip for tomorrow - there were some good sales on things I use. But -- I'm really tired and it's really hot and I really don't want to go. So I won't.
I love that stockpile saves me money.
I love that I could handle a time of not being able to go to the store.
But most of all, I just love the freedom it gives me to shop or not as I want.
What do you like best about yours?Donna

The same thing as you. I worked to day...Memorial Day...and didn't want to go out after I got home. But the lure of Oscar Mayer hot dogs for .49 and 40 oz Heinz catsup for .99 was just too good to pass up.....

Hmmm. If my sales were that good, I would probably go too!

The same exact reasons you gave. To run out of something, walk into your pantry and there is a backup.

I like what you said above.....exactly.
I will hit the sales most of the year but about May through Aug., unless it is something that I am low on.....or a super price, I just don't go to the store unless I am out of milk! Period.......Especially when my garden starts producing and I have my own produce!
I spend too much time outside and am usually dirty, stinky, and don't want to clean up to run errands.......so I don't!

I didn't shop last week because I just didn't have the energy. The stockpile is definitely a blessing. It forces me to plan a little more though.

The very best thing about my stockpile is... it's paid for!
Knowing that I have 2 months worth of meat in the freezer gives me comfort.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

Just like you all have stated- you don't have to go the store all the time. It certainly frees up time to do other things. I haven't gone in 1 month and man it feels good. I've gotten a lot more accomplished on the weekends since I don't have to spend time running into town to go to the store.

jantana, I'm in Shreveport. If Orange is more or less where I think it is, way far away from you. Isn't Orange way down in the tip of Texas? I'm embarrassed to admit I grew up in Fort Worth but have only vague notions of where most towns in Texas are located.

I LOVE my stockpile. I have added and built it over time; so I have a wide variety of things and PLENTY of things that we use often. If I am not in the mood to "chase the sales", I don't because I know I have a sufficient stockpile to hold me over for weeks and even months.
Hurricane season started today. So I will be checking my supply of batteries, water, easy to fix foods, etc. There really shouldn't be much I need.
I am going to start filling my gas cans and putting stabilizer in them. That way I won't be out tons of money at one time. But I will have gas for my generator if needed.
My brothers call me MS PREPAREDNESS, but in a good way now! They used to laugh at me UNTIL Hurricane Ike, BUT not anymore!Mary

My favorite thing about my stockpile was that my kids were able to use it for 3+ weeks while I was hospitalized. They had so much else to worry about it was a big deal for them not to have to think about shopping, or how to pay for anything. The hospital time was unplanned, as the result of an emergency and unexpected surgery accompanied by brain injury. They had their hands full!

And when I am out 'chasing sales' I just simply will not go on the weekends. Our stores are a zoo! Everyone rude, hurrying to get it all done so they can get home.
