Default How do you stockpile coffee?

I've got Camp Coffee (expensive, but we love it) and green coffee beans. I'm curious what others do...buy ground coffee? beans? What and how much? I am using up the last bottle of Camp Coffee, so that needs to go on my restock list ASAP.

    TIA --

I no longer have a grinder because I disliked the mess. (loved the smell and process though) I now buy instant coffee as stockpile and then usually receive coffee as gifts from friends who are aware of my addiction. I keep those in airtight tupperware, unopened from original packaging.

    Hope this helps.

Depends on the sale and the amount of space in my freezer. If it is an unbelievable sale, then several packages. If it is just the run of the mill sale that cycles around every six to eight weeks, then just enough to last until the next sale.

I buy large cans of ground coffee when I find a good sale. I probably have a years supply.

I have been especially stockpiling since I read that it is estimated to go up in price by 70%. I prefer it in large cans, or bags of beans, but will buy any form (except instant) when it's on sale. I probably have a year's supply or more, some of it in the basement refrigerator.

Coffee can go rancid due to the oils in the beans, so I typically don't stockpile it, but just buy an extra package when it's on sale and I have a coupon. This means I buy mostly store brand or Eight O'Clock which is relatively inexpensive, goes on sale often, and has coupons a lot. Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, and Seattle's Best are always too expensive.

I have a small coffee grinder but don't like having to grind beans and clean the grinder each morning, so to get a slightly fresher coffee experience than canned ground coffee, I buy bagged whole bean coffee and grind it in the store.

I don't drink coffee, but my husband buys it when it's as cheap as he can find it. If it's super cheap, like the instant he got in one-pound bottles a while back for .10 each, then he'll buy a lot and it goes in the pantry or in his designated coffee/tea cabinet, wherever there's room. If it's ground coffee, it may go in the freezer if there's room and there's enough that he can't use it in a reasonable time. Otherwise, that also goes into the pantry or coffee cabinet.

We've made the switch to organic coffee which doesn't go on sale as often as we'd like. In turn, we stock up when it does - approx 5lb bags at a time. If it runs out before the next sale - we buy DF's old non organic brand to tide him over.

The organic coffee we buy comes in both 1lb bags and tins which have a lil less then 1lb. We store the coffee in the pantry - tins go in 'as is' and the bags get placed into a freezer zip bag then into the cupboard. (the manufacturer states to store it in a cool dark dry place vs the freezer and having the condensation from the thawing affect the beans) We buy the beans and grind it ourselves as needed so it keeps its fresher taste. I grind a small air tight containers worth at a time - approx 1/2 lb which lasts us about 1.5 weeks. On weekends DF tends to drink more.

Which brand do you buy? Is it fair trade? I know I should probably switch.

We've tried several brands and learned that they're not all equal. The one we buy most often is Kicking Horse - its a Canadian brand and yes it is fair trade. Apparently you can buy it from Amazon (US) in a 2lb bag - I've only seen it in stores here in the tins and a 1lb bag. Home | Kicking Horse Coffee

We've also tried the 'ethical bean' which is another Canadian organic coffee, fair trade - but we weren't too fond of the taste/flavours/roast options etc. Ethical Bean Coffee | Fair Trade Organic Shade Grown Coffee Roasted in Vancouver

I don't drink nearly as much coffee as DF so my 1lb bag will last me longer...I'm more apt to try different brands though - even store brands and still, I seem to prefer Kicking Horse. Damn those other brands with lower pricing swaying me away time to time *shakes fist*

ETA: of course when we're out, we drink whatever is available

I prefer White Cloud and have to stock up when I get to Boise.

Albertson's is only store that carries it here and it is 1/3 again (or more) of the price in Boise. Even the Boise Costco carries it.

I buy both............beans and ground......depending on what they have.

I probably have a six months supply......don't think a year.

I will buy some other brands when running low and knowing I won't be getting south for awhile.......Dunkin Donuts (until they got so high), Java Delight is 'okay'.......

Will try a new one if I find it at a decent price. Have eliminated MANY that I won't buy in doing this.

I'll have to remember this! I can't stockpile coffee because coffee I buy at the commissary is rationed and it's illegal for me to get any in the mail unless I pay German tax on it. And I don't want to pay Euros for it in German stores

But when we return stateside I'd like to have some for a stockpile. I wonder if coffee in the big cans (Folgers, etc) would last longer than coffee in a bag?

FrugalFanny- does your coffee stay good when you get to the older packages?

We get coffee from Costco as the beans and then grind it ourselves (the Costco has a grinder.) We usually get just a couple of 3 lb bags. We also have instant as well - just in case we run out of the regular. It lasts for a long time as I do not drink it, just DH. I drink tea and can go with caffeine or not. Does not matter to me.

We have a variety. Sale dictates. If it is just in a bag I am V.sealing it now. Not much room in the freezer currently.
