Default dipping my toe in here...

well, i think i'm going to give stockpilling a whirl. the idea of never running out and having enough food/HBA's/cleaning supplies on hand in case of emergency really appeals to me.

i'm starting slow and i'm starting small. we are avid airmiles collectors so i am trying to work my small stockpile around airmiles deals and really good sales. i'm in canada and we don't have many coupons, so sadly i can't go that route. i'll just have to watch for deals.

    so far i've got:

6 bottles of conditioner (the kind i like too)
6 bottles of shampoo (not my favourite, but dh can use them)
1 bottle of dish soap (earth friendly too!)
1 bottle of all purpose cleaner (earth friendly too!)
    3 bottles of hand soap

i'm actually storing it in one of the cupboards of my buffet in the dining room, but i am going to need a shelf soon. i plan to store it in our sort of heated porch (which we never use).

Once you get used to shopping that way you will find it hard to go back to not trying to find the best deal out there. With the price of everything going up, up, up the skill is only going to get more needed.

Way to go! I'm starting my stockpile out too. I have a few things that I've already got too many of but I'd rather have to many than not enough. I don't plan on stockpiling for years but I do like to be able to go to my cupboard and get out shampoo, toothpaste or razors and not find that I'm "out".

exactly! & there's nothing worse then having to then go to the store and pay full price for that item because you need it.

Exactly! I've stared always buying several of what I call the "nonperishable necessities" like shampoo and dishwashing detergent when I find a good buy.

Yes having a mini store on hand is nice. Also making gift baskets from the stockpile comes in very handy.

A few months back I got a great deal on glade oil freshners = free, lol. Anyways was at the store last week and my mom took 2 off the shelf to buy at FULL price, ouch. Told her to put them back and I would give her 2 the next time I saw her. Put a smile on her face. Now I know to put a few more in her mother's day basket!! Which she loves receiving as a gift!!

Hey Debbit-cat: My sister (bless her heart - she's been gone 5 years now) used to come to my house, head toward my tiny unused bedroom and say: "I'm going shopping in Sandra's store". I loved being able to help her out.

i'm eyeing up the flyers for next weeks shopping trip already!

maple style canned beans are on sale, 6 for $4...which is pretty good for these as they are usually just over $1 a can.

& there's a good air miles deal on toilet paper and deoderant as well...

Good for you. And if you end up with no waste it is a good way to save money...........plus being very handy!

Am thinking that you will love it......and develop the 'habit' of shopping 'the stockpile way'!

I just buy some basic stuff and can make practically everything I need or want from those ingredients. I haven't bought shampoo, conditioner, laundry soap, cream of whatever soup, any convenience food, etc in months. Love it! Just do a google search for 'make your own____' and you'll see how easy it is to make whatever it is that you usually buy.

Don't forget to post your "added to the stockpile" in the thread if you haven't already. It's under this heading.
Sounds like you have a plan. Way to go! As you go you will find yourself getting more and more excited as it builds. It's a real feeling of accomplishment.

Whenever I watch extreme couponing or whatever its called, i admit, i feel jealous lol I'm in Canada and sure wish we had stores up here that would double or triple or stack coupons (I hear london drug stores stack coupons but we don't have that store in this little town). I use coupons when i can but the savings seem to minimal even with sales compared to our neighbours down south *wishful sigh*

Anyways, back to starting your stockpile. Have fun with it, that's what I do. It's like an adventure, looking for awesome deals on things like toothpaste to cleaning supplies to food items etc. My stockpile was built up and is somewhat sparse now. But I will rebuild it back up in no time. I love sobey's dollar days and their bogo sales Also places like the dollar stores are great for things like spices

I love shopping from my own stockpile, the sense of security is awesome Adding a couple cans of this a week or a couple extra pkgs of that the next week etc, really add up in the long run. Just remember to ROTATE your stockpile, first in first out in order to keep your supplies 'fresh' I also take a sharpie pen and write the date on canned items that dont have a date on them.

    Best of luck to you!!
