How to stockpile pet kibble?
I've seen people post that they have 6-12 months of pet food stored. How do you store it so it doesn't go bad? Kibble has oils in it so I wouldn't want it to go rancid.

It has an expiration date on it. I put it in the bag in a storage tub and rotate. Make sure its stored in a cool dry place.
I suppose you could try and vaccumn seal it??? but i wouldn't bother.

Last time I stored kibble in large plastic buckets with lids, but mice chewed threw and it was wasted. I was storing it in the garage, so that may have been my fault. Hannah

we put the dog food in the big freezer. we don't have a stockpile, but we buy a big bag and have a little dog. i think the freezer helps it keep longer.

When purchasing, look at the expiration date on the bags and choose the one(s) with the farthest out expiration date. Keep it in a cool dry place and protect from mice.
I just purchased 16 large cans of Alpo dog food for 59 cents a can. The expiration dates are for December 2011. I cleaned out the shelf because it is normally around $1.10 a can.Mary

Hi there, perhaps instead of storing the dog food in plastic tubs or plastic garbage containers with lids....buy a metal garbage container with a tight fitting lid, I don't imagine that mice can get into that
Just make sure to rotate the food regularly and like the others have posted, make sure to check the expiration dates. You could also store canned dog food too, just write down the date you bought it with a permanent marker and use it within a yrs time.
