How do you keep your stockpile bug free?
I have a terrible time with storing cornmeal. Even if I use an air tight container or jar, about 2-3 weeks after I buy some cornmeal I find little black bugs in it. I've tried looking online, and some places say these little critters come with the cornmeal and hatch in the right environment.
Is there some secret to keeping unwanted things like this out of your pantry?personal loan 900/15000

Put your dry goods in the deep freeze for a few days before moving to the airtight container. That is supposed to kill any bugs that came with the package.

Yep, freeze corn meal and flour for a couple of days. Then be sure to store it in a container that bugs CAN'T get into.

I had a problem with some flour about a month ago. But I don't use much flour and it had been there a long time. Now I keep flour and cornmeal in the fridge. No room in the freezer so thought I'd try that.

Freeze the flour and cornmeal for a few days, then after it's well thawed, place in airtight containers, (I use freezer weight zip top bags), and store. I've also put out a bit of Terro ant bait in 2 lt soda lids on some of the shelves...I just make sure it can't get into contact with ANY food product.

If it is coming in the cornmeal, buy a different brand, or try a different store. Sure, you can kill them by freezing it, but the bugs are still in your cornmeal, just dead.
I get them a lot in imported rice, and have to rinse it before I cook it. I'm not sure you can do that with cornmeal.Use it up, Wear it out,

Yes, the eggs are in all grains - from the good stuff to processed mixes. Hatching depends upon the climate of your pantry. Freezing will kill the eggs. Keeping a cool, dry pantry helps too. You will want airtight containers also. I keep what few grains I use in the second fridge.

I have seen recommendations in multiple places to put a bay leaf into the airtight container (after you've frozen the flour for about 72 hours).

I will put packages of rice, flour, cornmeal, etc., in the freezer. Then store in large glass containers such as mason jars. I also make sure to dispatch of any bugs I see. Which is difficult to do in the warmer weather. Cat doesn't help either with this.
Make sure to keep shelves clean. Wipe up any spills when they happen. You can also try putting some bayleaves on the shelves. I also do this. So far I have not had a bug problem. Knock on wood.
