I stockpile a little extra as winter is coming on but I only go through about 2 bags a year.........35 pound bags. Only two small dogs here.

I don't wait for it to get totally empty before I buy more.
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

We have 2 cats (Lucky and Chancey), my 'girls' love their dry whiskas cat food, we go through at least two 4 kilogram bags in a month. That's 17.6 pounds of dry cat food a month! It surprises me b/c they aren't chubby cats, Chancey is 'stocky' but not fat at all and Lucky, she's just a nibbler and is a thin but fluffy cat I don't stockpile too much of the dried food, maybe 3 bags at a time, it never lasts around here anyway. Even bought a giant bag of whiskas and they ate it up in no time (i thought it would last at least 4-6 mths...boy was i wrong lol). I also stock up on canned food for them, as well as canned tuna (we don't eat canned tuna or fish for that matter but the girls love it and get it once a day as a treat). Kitter litter can keep forever as long as its kept dry and not in too humid of a location. I keep some in the trunk of my car lol

I was thinking of stocking up on dried food but keeping it in steel garbage bins with tight fitting lids in the shed out back. Still thinking about it though...I don't want them to get sick with rancid food, mind you, cats can be finicky and i'm sure if it was rancid, they would not eat it due to the smell/taste...but that's just a guess.
