I also stockpile items like pasta, beef jerky etc. Of course, my stockpile isn't only food items, it also includes laundry soap, fabric softener, tin foil, plastic wrap, garbage bags, face/body soap, shampoo, conditioner, deordorant, razors, fem. products, bleach, cleaning supplies, water, vitamins etc Things like gum, hard candy etc also are included in my stockpile...not exactly health food but when morale is down, it's amazing how a little pack of lifesavers can lift ones spirits

Imagine being jobless for a year, what would you want to have/need to help get you through a financial struggle? What sort of food/ingredient items would you like to have? What would you absolutely need? And if you don't like the thought of buying canned items fromt the store, maybe can your own food?
Then go around your home and look at the items you use on regular basis (body wash/soap, dish soap, laundry soap, plastic wrap, tin foil, light bulbs, furnace filters, pet food/supplies, toilet paper, etc etc) and start stocking up on those items too Combine coupons with sales and you'll be laughing....unless you live up here in canada where we don't have double/triple coupon offers like in the usa. I'd move to the usa for that reason alone haha jk
thank you for that list of stuff I haven't thought about. I was thinking stockpiling was all about food. You have been a help to me!

You're welcome Glad to help out with my own two cents lol Also, when I first started stockpiling a year's worth of food/supplies seemed like it was unattainable. I remember thinking "how in the he!! am I going to afford to buy all that stuff and where the heck am I going to store it all?!" lol So what I did was break it down in little chunks. Don't expect to get everything all at once, it takes time. If I hit a great sale on dish soap and I have the $, I'll buy a year's worth (one bottle can go a long ways). So maybe I buy 12 bottles and then I'm done If I hit a sale on shampoo, I'll buy as many as i can, then it's done. I usually base my shopping for my stockpile on sales. I rotate everything, first in, first out (FIFO), using the oldest stuff first and putting the new stuff in the back sort of thing. If I hit a sale on sugar or whatever food item, I incorporate that purchase into my regular grocery shopping budget. We eat from our stockpile and replenish it as we go along. That way everything is always fresh.

I have a year's worth of certain items but not of everything yet(I'm still working on it lol).

But BEFORE the beer we have to stock up on chips and chocolate!!!

I don't do much 'quickie foods' either.........will buy cake mix. Have a couple boxes (or freezer items) of things for those days I am totally
lazy!! But left over soup in the freezer is much better.

I do a fair amt. of canning. Some dehydrating.

    Peanut butter! Yum!

Things I look for on sale:

    Pasta
    Pasta Sauces
    Canned tomatoes in various forms
    Canned Veggies
    Canned Fruits
    Baking Supplies
    Dried Beans/Peas
    Coffee
    Tea
    Crackers
    Toilet Paper
    Bars of Soap
    Toothpaste
    Peanut Butter (of course!)
Hair colour (yes I'm vain )
    Cosmetics
    Various types of oils
    Vaseline
    First aid products
    Cold medicine
    Pain relievers

Whew - okay, that's a start of what we are storing.

Also, don't forget water. I reuse all of our 2L bottles by washing them and filling them with tap water. I have nearly a month's supply for our family and pets.

This is what I was going to say but she pretty much covered it. I stock whatever my family would need in our day to day life if we all of a sudden had no income. And it has happened. In 2009 my husband lost his job and was unemployed - with no assistance - for many months. I was able to go about 4 months without ever stepping foot inside a store. I don't know what we would have done without our stockpile.
