Thread: Does anyone stockpile clothing?

No, don't "stockpile".........just never throw anything away....it just moves 'down' in wearing categories.
When new (or new to me) it just gets worn when I go somewhere. Then......with wear.........it moves down to 'everyday wear'.....and when it gets minor spots or bleach spots or rips......it moves to garden wear!
I do buy 'out of season' on most things.........cheaper.

Yeah, I guess what I do is considered stockpiling, lol. I always keep an unopened bag of my favorite socks and an unopened packaged of my favorite underwear on hand. You never know when you'll need 'em... I wear a very hard to find size bra...so when I need new bras, I always order at least 2-4, and put at least one away to save for later.
I FREEZE during the winter, and now that I've moved into a house of my own where I have to pay the bills, I've made sure I have lots of sweatshirts, sweatpants, and slipper socks.
People are always giving my son clothes, but he's just not growing super fast yet. Still, anything of good quality, we put away for him until he can use it. However, the second he grows out of something, if its still in good shape, its donated to someone who can use it.

yes. Lol...the only places that I can find jeans that fit me & most of my family are the thrift shops. When I am fortunate to find several pair at one time, I buy them. I have 5 kiddos that are still growing, so having many pairs of blue jeans in several sizes for them to grow into has turned out to be a blessing. Especially, when later on, we find that one of the kiddos needs "new" jeans & there isn't any money. All we have to do is go shopping in the garage - problem solved

With my youngest daughter, when she gets rips in the knees of her jeans & can't pass them down to her younger brother, I cut the legs off about 4" below the back pockets...then I sew a length of pretty fabric to the denim & she has a pretty new skirt. I use the backs of the left over jean legs for quilts, etc.(best fabric)The rest of the legs go in the rag bag.

If you count hand-me-downs as stockpiling, then I've done a lot of it! I've got three boys and have passed clothing down for years! Fortunately most boy clothes don't go out of style. My youngest has a full armoire and tons of underbed storage things full of clothes. He also has some in his closet. My middle ds has a dresser, two chest of drawers, and two closets full of clothes some of which he can wear now, some will be for later, and I probably need to take some out and move them to the youngest boy's room.Oldest ds has the fewest clothes. We have new long johns for them in our stockpile, lots of gloves, scarves, coats, and some shoes (only for youngest though). Stockpiling clothes is something I want to work on though 'cause the hand-me-downs will eventually run out!

To an extent. If someone is giving away a bunch of clothes, I'll put them into storage to use later. Occasionally, if I find a good deal on jeans, I'll buy several pairs. I once came across an excellent brand in my size for $5, so I picked up 4 or 5 pairs. I've been meaning to do the same with shoes, but haven't for some reason. With all of the Kohl's $10 off anything coupons, 1/3 of my closet has become Kohl's shirts that I've picked up for pennies.

Yes!!! That has saved us so many times when we running low on money. I save hand me downs, yard sale finds, thrift store finds, and gifts from relatives in rubbermaid tubs in the garage. I have a master list telling me what I have in every size so I don't get too much of one thing and not enough of another. Whenever the kids grow we just go get the next size from the garage and I never have to worry. I get most of the stuff when our thrift store has their 99 cent clothing sale. We fill the tubs on that day.

Most people own more clothes than they could wear out in a lifetime us included so I don't "stock" up on clothing. I do keep several new packages of undies and socks (bought on sale) on hand. We have no problem wearing garage sale or thrift shop clothing but do insist on new undies. Since we wear coats up to 9 months a year I buy new -- on sale at the end of season usually 80% off.
Shoes are a problem for me because I can no longer find any that fit. Literally no one is making AAAA widths. So when I can afford to and when I can find something that sort of fits I buy. Unfortunately, its been 3 years since I found any. At $130+ a pair I really feel ill when I buy something I end up not being able to wear them.
