I succumb to buying imported produce sometimes, too. And sometimes I forget to check country of origin.

This is the weird part. I'm NOT a fruit eater! But since starting South Beach Diet, I eat a lot more to get sweets, and also to avoid more dangerous snacks. That's why I keep buying watermelon in spite of the cost. And other stuff, too.

Fresh produce would have to go a lot higher for me to give it up. It's too important to skip it.

I am to the point of just buying the fresh fruit that is on ad for the week. Last week I got grapes (1.68 per #) cherries ($1.48 per pound) and peaches ($1.28 per pound)

Grapes our on again this week so I will go towards the end of the sale and stock up (.99 per pound)

I know Zaycon foods has some deals right now on strawberries for $1.49 per pound in certain areas. You might try zaycon.com I have purchased peaches from them and was really happy with the quality

Congrats on your loss! Great progress!

I feel the same way. My doc wants me to have weight loss surgery. I don't want weight loss surgery. Fruit is less expensive and certainly better for me.

OMG....ff............that is a huge weight loss!! CONGRATS!!!

I have probably asked this before........but what part of Wa State are you from? Do you have a WinCo or Trading Co. near you?

I NEVER eat the out of season fruit...........that is why the oranges were a killer. I had to buy TWO last year to put in some jam I was making and while the jam turned out DELICIOUS it only made five little jars.............won't be making it again anytime soon. Think they came out to about a BUCK A PIECE! And that wasn't the only fruit in it........expensive jam......BUT DARN GOOD!

But our fruit prices just haven't come down this year much at all!!! Even broccoli and cauliflower have stayed pretty high!! $1.49 is about the best I can do
on grapes and I don't think any cherries have been below $2!!!

You say that like it's high prices. That's a good sale where we live.

I know SD.........I read some of the prices and .........but comparatively speaking..........our prices haven't been great.......once in a great while you will get something that is "just good $".............I am in a heavy produce, orchard, farming area.........STUFF SHOULD BE CHEAPER!!!

I would probably have to go through FRUIT WITHDRAWAL if I lived with some of the prices!!! And many times this summer have had to just "bite the bullet" and pay the price here so I can have some. Not sure what it would take before I quit buying fruit..........but haven't quite gotten there yet!!

I DID eat more canned fruit this spring, going into summer.......partly because it needed to be consumed........but part was the price of fresh!!

I can't believe how expensive apples are this year. I got Pink Lady apples for $1.69 and thought I was doing great! Usually we can get apples for about .99/pound.

All I can do is close my eyes and pay. This weight is killing me little by little, and if it costs more for decent food that gets the weight off, so be it. It's not like food for programs like NutriSystem or Jenny Craig are cheap, and I'd rather eat good food from the store anyway. Not to mention what it would cost for weight loss surgery, or worse, a heart attack, stroke, or other catastrophic illness if I allow the price of good food to be yet another excuse for procrastinating about eating right. Things are not going to improve at least until this drought eases, and that won't be for at least another year when next year's crops come in, assuming they do. I can't and won't wait that long.

Spirit Deer, I have noticed the same with apples. Crazy high prices. They are DS's favorite fruit but this week he is getting his fill of peaches instead. When I was at the store apples were $2.49 per pound *thud*. Hopefully they will come down in the fall.

Good for you spirit deer in grabbing life by the horns and showing who's boss! I also only buy produce on the sale ad that week. We buy frozen fruit to put in oatmeal, yogurt, pancakes, etc. fresh fruit is just for eating fresh.

I have been getting 99 cents a lb for peaches, 1.99 for cherries, 1.99 pint of blueberries. I am going to go to sams club for produce, nice prices there.
