LDS (mormons) believe in maintaining a years worth of food and supplies. I have done so for the past 20 years. i have been divorced/ single for the past 6 years and i let the food storage dwindle down to a more manageable amount.

i moved the food storage that took up a whole room to a walk in closet. i moved it because i wanted to rent out the room it occupied to generate passive income. now the room is remodeled with crown molding, dado rail, and a new tile floor.

my housemate now has a new "suite" of two rooms and a bath, instead of a one tiny room.

I have no problem with consolidating the food storage so it takes up less room. However, I would be loathe to give up a year's worth if that is what I was used to. My personal goal is two years although we're not near that yet.
