I Knew I Had A Stocking Problem When . . .
I knew I had a stocking problem when . . .
I moved into my new home and unpacked 20 cans of tuna.
I was on sick leave for a year and NEVER had to buy any new soap, toothpaste, razors, soup, pasta or rice as I had enough to last me for 12 months.
Friends tell me if there was ever a war and they needed food, they would all come over to my place!

Wow, that's impressive.
I've been slowly adding to my stockpile. So far the only things I've been able to stockpile (ie free or less than $.20) have been Loreal Vive shampoo/conditioner, Pillsbury quick bread mix, and Juicy Juice (which I am now running low on)
I can't wait until I only have to visit the grocery store to get milk and meats.

That is impressive.
I knew I had a problem when I bought 5 bottles of hot sauce (something we NEVER use) because it was .15 a bottle. My dh says I have "hording tendencies". lol

I knew I had a problem when we closed on our house and for the 6 weeks between signing and moving in I didnt go to a single grocery store-$10-15 per week at the farm market for fresh fruits and veggies, eggs etc., but nothing else was needed-we had all of it stored in our tiny little apartment. I still had to pack two big boxes of food plus cases of cleaning products.

...I kept tripping over the Rubbermaid container filled with brown sugar that's in the middle of the kitchen floor because there's nowhere else to put it.

Shell, that is not a problem. That's cause for celebration!
You must have felt great when you made it through your sick leave without having to buy the products you listed. I have a small stockpile and am trying to increase it. I hope that if dh ever gets laid off or disabled that we will have to buy very little for at least a year. Way to go Shell!

i know i have a problem when everyone leaves my house with a complementary box of toothpaste ;D b/c in the past 3 months i have gotten over 30 boxes for free...and it expires before we will be able to use it all!
i know i have a problem (is there a coupons anonymous?) when my dh just bought me huge shelves about two months ago and they are completely filled (and i only get $40/week from our budget and that includes diapers, wipes, and clothes!)...if i have a coupon and can get something for free, i use it!! i figure before too long, all i will need is fresh meat, produce, and milk! that will be an amazing day.

LOL! Shell! And I thought I was the only one who had so many cans of tuna!
I bought crest tooth paste and got some free last year and I think I still have some for another year or so!
I haven`t bought sanitary pads for a year and a half. A huge special that I stocked up on.(but now I`m about to finish the last package)
In October 2000, I got 20 toothbrushes for free, when the drugstore had them for 1.00 $ each on liquidation and I had coupons for the same brand that said BUY TWO AND GET 2.00$ OFF so they became free!
I could go on and on, but I don`t want to take up all your time!
The only problem, I get here is finding space for when I stock up on a great special! It`s small here and we are 7 living in our home. I am constantly searching for frugal creative ways to make storage space without losing our living space.
Does anyone have ideas on this?

I am as bad as ya'll. I stock up on BBQ sauce very Memorial Day because it's always a loss leader. We then use up my stockpile all year. I have about two dozen cans of green chilis in my pantry right now that I got for .08 per can. We use these regularly, so this was a deal for me!
My freezers are just as bad. I got steals on marked down lunch meat last Thursday, so I have about ten pound worth in there right now. I paid less than 1.00/lb for all of it!
Simplemom, store things in unconventional places. In my last house, I stored extra cereal under the bed. Cases of canned good also will fit under there easily. If you have end tables that have open legs, put stuff under them and cover the tables with long cloths. The cloth will hide the items stored underneath. If you need a coffe table, substitute a trunk and store things in it too!

Thanks Lori for the tip... I guess anywhere for storage as long that it doesn`t take living space.
Actually, for now, under my bed I store 3 plastic bins with our christmas decorations, but there`s still space left for more...

I knew that I had a stockpiling problem: when I pantry, deep freezer and linen closet is stuffed to the gills. This revelation has brought me such joy as I just found out within the next month or so I will be losing my job. Ugh and it's holiday time. Anyway, at least I am all set for food.

LOL! I'm getting there. I need to start stocking toiletries and laundry stuff, but on food, I have enough for at least a month. I'd have to declutter to find places to stock anymore, but when I finally get that third bedroom cleaned out, I'm thinking of making it into a pantry....how about that? A 9x9' pantry! It's really too small for a bedroom, so why not? Put in some nice cheap cabinets with doors and go to town!
