Question How big is your stockpile?

I have been stockpiling for a while and now with hurricane season coming I just purchased more things I found on sale. I think I have enough for my family for 2 or 3 months. I started to wonder how much stuff do other people keep...how many months would your stockpile carry you? You may run out of some things or need to get very creative, but in an emergency, how long would it possible last? I was just wondering if I am being overly obsessive or if other people do this too. Thanks

A few days maybe, other than water (which I do not have enough of). I need to get crackin'.

I have to have fresh veggies and such, but other than that, I'm doing great for dry and canned goods.

We probably have enough to last 1 to 2 months. (Depending on how depress we get if anything like that happens)

We don't have enough Fresh-water either.

I'm trying to get rid of all the older food, so have more room for new ones.

I have enough food to get us through a couple of weeks. We have enough water for a few days. I always buy cat food before the current bag runs out. Not for a stockpiling reason, but because I don't want to have to make an emergency run to Petsmart because I've run out. Same with cat litter.

I buy TP at Sam's so we always have plenty. Once it gets down to 2-3 packages (4 rolls in the pkg.), I usually go out and get more. Just another thing I don't ever want to run out of.

I can't really say that I stockpile for a disaster, though. If a disaster were to hit us, it would most likely be a tornado. A tornado would make a stockpile pretty useless.

HBA is Health and Beauty Aids. Toothpaste, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, etc.

We have enough of some things to last a few months, but not enough of everything. I mainly stockpile what I can get free or very cheap with sales and double coupons. At the present time, we have lots of the following:

    frozen vegetables
    Eggo waffles
    Hormel Chili
    Cereal
    toothpaste
    razors and shaving cream
    Maxi pads and pantyliners
    deodorant
    hairspray
    lotion
soft soap, body wash, and dish soap
    cake mixes
    Rice mixes and instant potatoes
    spagetti sauce
    peanut butter and jelly

At different times, the stockpile is different. It depends alot on what deals I can find. One time I got 20 packages of toilet paper free, another time it was Brawny napkins. Sometimes I have alot of coffee, right now I do not.

thank you. And thanks everyone for the replies...it is very interesting to see what others stockpile and in what amounts. I hadn't thought of instant potatoes, I may look for some to pick up.

I have HBA's out the wazoo. I should really start working on a food stockpile. They are saying that this hurricane season could be nasty for the northeast. Never hurts to be a little prepared.

I'm good for about 3 weeks in the food department. As for HAB I've got to laugh. We also buy our TP at Sam's so its always a good pile. Shampoo, body soap and toothpaste are also bought there so we're good. Water is a department I keep milk jugs and old 2 liter soda bottles frozen all the time as we use them on a daily basis for work.
Pet food is most likely my down fall but I'd just feed the pets leftovers.

    Not big enough.
The last 5 months have been really hard for us financially, I haven't been able to stock up on sales as much as I'd like. If I pushed it we would have enough food for 3-4 months. HBA like deodorant & razors we are set for at least that long. But my other HBAs have suffered, as well as my meat stock

    I'm working on it...baby steps.

I had gotten it up to 3-4 months of food and such, but we are thinking of moving this summer across country, so we have been frantically eating it down. Now we probably have 1 month of food. It makes me nervous, but it has helped us keep our food bill down while we save for the move.

For those worried about bird flu, hurricanes etc.
I'd say buy a couple cases of ramen noodles. They are cheap, so you don't really need to worry about budgeting them in, they last forever and if you never ate them, you wouldn't feel bad about it. And if you were at the point of eating them days in a row, you'd be very grateful at that point and thus wouldn't complain

Actually my kids like them and we have them about once a week - I add veggies to them.
