Default Wow that stockpile dwindles fast!

I spent the summer stocking up and had what I thought was about 4-6 mos of basic necessities purchased. I told myself I was going to replace it as used. I was downstairs looking at it this morning and boy I have not kept up! I am feeling discouraged that it is not where I want it to be. Does anyone else struggle with this? With the events going on globally I have felt the need to keep a good stock on hand. Right now I am feeling torn between spending the money to stock and just leaving it where it is.

Some things are impossible to keep "stocked up" around here. Earlier this summer, I ran across a fantastic deal on Pop-tarts, and got 15 boxes. My DH saw this as a "challenge" and would consume 4-8 Pop-tarts a day until they were all gone.

Don't feel like you have to do it all at once. Lot of good canned goods sales coming. Adding a little here & there will add up to well stocked in no time.
I try to keep at least 2 of most things and more of others like canned tomatoes & tuna. When I'm close to using up one, before I open the new, I put it on my grocery list. It takes time to get the family working with you on this but when they forget & we run out of something they want, they get it. Good luck!

I am selective about what I buy but if you are not happy with your stockpile then add a little here and there.

This week my stores have some great great sales so I am stocking up and not doing any shopping in october except for bread, milk, oj and if canned veggies and fruit come up and pepsi (I will not pay $5.96 for a 24 pk)

But if you feel you are not happy with what you have work on it here and there my goal is to have a nice stock before winter since I have heard from more then one source we are going to have a bad winter. I want to make sure I don't have to goto the store often so my goal is to have a nice stock to get us thru the winter months and then restock as needed.

You will know what is right for you and your family (there is just dh,me, 1 dog and 3 cats) just add here and there to help out some.

I have enough cleaning items, soups, and things but if I get a good deal I will get more but it has to be a really really good deal to do it.

Now that you know you need to replenish your stock, you can do it. Just watch for sales on the things you need. You might even go so far as to keep a list of the things you need and estimate how many of each item you want. then when something goes on sale from your list you can restock your stockpile. It would be very expensive and unfrugal to go out and buy a stockpile at full price LOL. So just add some as you see a good deal. Good luck!

Thanks everyone I am going to check this weeks fliers and hit Aldis with a list and I figured an extra 50 as I am doing well on my grocery challenge so far this month. HOWEVER a friend invited me to saratoga which is where we hit bj's and superW tomorrow so I may stock up at superw but not at bj's as a few things adds up quick there.

I find it to be an ongoing battle. I remember Ben Franklin saying something about always taking out of the pot and never putting anything in soon comes to the bottom of the pot.

Default if your concern is ...

You mentioned the state of the world ...

So if your concerns are disasters, bird flu etc. i.e. being prepared and you feel insecure about not being stocked up, may I suggest

Ramen Noodles. Cheap, last forever. And if you don't use them, you wont care. And if you NEED them, you'll be grateful for them. And you can always add a bit of meat and veggies to them.
