    Default another small success

I get paid weekly. Two weeks ago, armed with a handwritten budget on a paper scrap, I wanted to have $25 left as an ending balance in my checking account. I failed.

Last week, after session 1 of FPU, I let my not-so-inner nerd take charge of the process. I ended up with a Google docs spreadsheet that I let my wife view with a weekly budget coupled with a weekly statement of cash flows. As an aside, I also drew up the liabilities portion of our personal balance sheet.

Anyhow, the goal for this week was to have $50 as an ending balance in the checking account. (In my budget, I used the fancy accounting term of "left over".) Tomorrow is payday an I have more than $52 in my balanced checking account! Woohoo!

I really don't have to spend my checking account down to zero each month!

Each week for awhile I want to add $50 to the ending balance of my checking account. I'll also be saving cash in savings for future purchases and working on paying off the consumer debt.

It is helpful getting the positive reinforcement here.

Staying on top of the cash flow makes all the difference, and is great fun for us nerds. Gotta love spreadsheets! Good job!
