Default lifestyle change survives first contact with enemy

Had a gout flareup last week and missed most of the week from work. I don't have sick days, so it was without pay. I've been making diet changes and losing weight - not like my first attack many years ago when White Castle burgers were a staple part of my diet.

Anyhow, this loss of income presents an upset to my financial planning and I got a little depressed over everything too. My usual past thing to do in this situation would have been to just hobble out for Chinese for lunch for a veggie heavy entree or order a turkey sub delivered and just stuff the receipts in my pocket to record later and then figure out how to make do with what was left after overspending.

This time I just stayed home and didn't spend any money. I did squander a lot of time playing computer games and it took me until today to get back on the horse and redo my budget to account for the loss of pay (not as bad as I had feared ).

Anyhow, I just wanted to share that I had a partial victory when challenged by adversity in maintaining my lifestyle changes.

Congratulations! You conquered your past mistakes. After a couple months of depression I went away from here and played games on the computer too. Glad I'm back. Glad you figured out how to deal and win,

Well, today is the first full pay period after the gout flareup. I overspent a little, but I still have just shy of $100 in my self-imposed checking reserve.

I think I'm going to go back to building the reserve back slowly instead of jumping to where I'd want the reserve to be if I hadn't had the gout.
