    We're debt freeeeeeeeee!

My wife and I just got married in August after being together for 5+ years. She's 25 and i'll be 25 next month. We've paid off over $30,000. This debt was a mixture of auto loans, credit cards and student loans.

I didn't start caring about debt until about two years ago. I was beginning to get tired of living at home with my parents and I didn't want my debt to get in the way of qualifying for a home loan. In 2010, I started to be pro-active with my debt and even sold my motorcycle to contribute towards truck loan. By February of this year, I had reduced my debt by 80% and we got approved for a home loan.

When we got married in August, my remaining debt was paid off and my wife had approximately $7,000 left. Our last payoffs were $1,099.58 to Sallie Mae and $311 to my dentist (for 2 visits that I didn't realize weren't covered by insurance).

Funny thing is I really didn't discover Dave Ramsey until this year. I think I was already headed in the right direction, but listening to him and reading his book just motivated me and gave more direction. My wife wasn't as pumped as I was, but went along with things none the less.

I would like to end by first saying that I give God all the praise for allowing us to be at this point with our finances. Secondly, I just want to encourage those who are still trying to obtain their goal of being debt free. My wife and I weren't making a lot of money, but we had a lot of advantages...living at home with parents, me having a weekend job, etc. I know a lot of you have a family to provide for, which means more financial obligations. Good luck and stay focused!

Don't ever forget the feeling of paying off your debt. The two of you are really starting out on a great foot financially.
