Finally won my KGB (aka IRS)dispute!!!!!!!
I have been tangling with the IRS for several years (a long complex saga we won't go into here, lol), and they were claiming I owed $80k+ (eventually climbed to over $100k what with alleged penalties and interest). Yes, sportsfans, you heard that right!!!!
Well, I appealed my case and ultimately prevailed and I actually only owed about $800 (yeah, you read THAT right, too, lol). I had been paying off an old tax bill from several years ago, but they were applying those payments to this newer nonsense, but when I won my case they back-credited that old bill, so...........................
on 1-7-08 I wrote my FINAL CHECK TO THE IRS in the amount of $437. I am DONE. Paid in full. And laughing at them all the way to the bank. Dummies - I TOLD them I didn't owe any stinkin' $80k. I DO run a legitimate business and write off my expenses like the law allows. Grrr......
Just had to get that off my chest. I'm now sleeping better than I have in years.

Good for you.
I have paid them thousands of dollars for not keeping good records and the deadline was too short to get all the bank statements and profit and loss sheets from the casinos. I had a problem of winning 26-33k each year in Vegas and did not give my husband the 1099'sto write off any losses. By the 4th year I fessed up and I think I gave him 29k in 1099's. He was not too happy and I have been banned from Vegas for a few years now.

I just want everybody to know that if you have a run-in with the IRS, all is not lost. They do listen to reason, and if the truth is on your side you have a very good chance of prevailing.
And to their credit, I have to say that EVERY SINGLE ONE of the several people (auditors, collection people, etc) I dealt with face-to-face was unfailingly polite and even kind (they knew I was right and they were wrong, and were none of them fools) and helpful (yes, I DID say that).
I just got on the wrong side of the computer system. The biggest fault was with POSTAL delivery (or repeated lack thereof). The human beings at the IRS were never the problem.

Well I'm glad you were able to work through it. It drives me nuts that we pay so much in taxes as it is and yet they come after decent working people for yet MORE money.

I hope I have equally good results-I just got a letter from them explaining that they wanted to change my return and charge me 21000. in taxes-plus penalties and fees

I sent my information back explaining to them that the money they were going to charge me taxes on is taxfree--foster care payments., and am waiting for a reply. If I really would owe 21 thousand, I'd be bankrupt.
