Evelope Stuffing?
Ok, ladies....I want any and all opinions on Stuffing Envelopes as an at home job. After we buy a house, I would like to work from home. I want a "no-brainer" job.
I'm being selfish...I want to be able to stop what I'm doing at a moments notice incase of emergencies. And I want something that will not cause "mental exhaustion". Seems perfect to me.
Anyone with any experience in this type of work welcome to give the thumbs up or down.
Thanks!

ok, i've had two experineces..one was an at home job ...what a RIP OFF that was...I paid them (first red flag i should have noticed!) and then i got sent fliers etc. to post around on bulletin boards in order to DRUM UP the paper to stuff in envelopes, it REALLY made me upset that i'd fallen so easily for that scam..oh well lesson learned right

The other was a temporary job I did at Stanford, ok it was a little more than stuffing envelopes, but for most of the time it was fold stuff/seal/stamp/etc..I got 12$/hr but it only lasted about 3 days. I would have LOVED to have full time work like that ...you get to dress up and feel business like...and not have to deal with anything major...
What is my point here...hmm oh yeah, stick to working with a reliable business!
Don't fall into the scam trap like I did. I don't know if there is actually a real work at home stuffing envelopes job that's not a stupid thing I got into...but I would try getting in touch with a temp agency maybe, and telling them you want to do monotonous -no thought involved- type of work

The major point here is "in my own home". I'm so tired of working variable shifts and wasting time driving to work and then home.
I had thought of checking out a medical transcriptionist course a friend of mine is taking, but I couldn't start it right away...sigh...so tired of not being able to be there for my kids and I miss them and my dh.
sorry...don't mean to whine. It's depressing.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to say you had to go out and get a job, but to just be sure you know that whoever hires you to work *at your home, is well known kwim?

woops lol, at the end i did say check for a temp agency, my bad!
Never mind what I said about that ...I was just getting carried away ...like usual...
Have you thought about ebay? It's pretty much at home...except going to the post office and shopping for stuff..but you can totally set your own hours, and sell whatever you want, however much you want etc...

I've heard that E-bay isn't all that easy...I guess it's like anything else...you need to do a little leg work...research what is sale-able. Won't hurt to look into it!
Didn't mean to be whiney earlier. I just get so frustrated.
My dd is 12. She's at "that" age and I really think she needs me to be home...ie...available.
My ds is 7 and growing up so quickly. I chose to NOT have anymore children when I was 27. So he's my baby and I want to watch him develop.
It's so difficult to be JUST a wife and a mother in todays world. But that is what I would like!

GRaci,
there is no such thing as "JUST a wife and mother"!
You are a multitasking super force!
Ebay is not all that hard if you are organized. There is good money to be made, but like any commisioned job there are days when you make nothing.
As to the envelope stuffing, I have never seen a legit one, ever.

Didn't mean to offend...and I do like the term "multi-tasking super force"...LOL There is no JUST in "Mother"...hehehehe
I'm going to have to do some research on "working at home". I guess I'm like most people...I want an easy fix and there is no such thing.
I have to work. There is no getting around that. The goals that my dh and I have require 2 incomes. I'm hoping that once we've reached these goals we can kick back to one income. This is MY goal. That is why I'm learning the fine art of frugality.
It's really pretty funny. My darling looked at me a few months ago and said, "Honey, It's okay to spend money". My reply, "I never said it wasn't. I'm just a little pickier about what I spend it on now!"
Thanks for the input guys! You've helped me to be a bit more realistic about this. I am determined! I WILL FIND A WAY TO DO THIS....

what about something like mary kay, avon or doing pampered chef? But I'm not really sure what they require you to do as far as leaving the house ..
I did ebay a couple months before I got pregnant..it was fun, not much work and I would buy a suit for 1$ in a thrift store and then sell it for 24$..or a jacket for 7$ and sell it for about 24$ as well...so the individual profits weren't super high but all in all I made a pretty good amount for the little work that I did..You just have to look to see what sells and what people are actually bidding on to see what you should go out and buy
I know I could probably make money off of things I buy at Target (or rather a lot of things I see but don't buy) A while back they had eddie bauer tents clearanced to 40$ and I know i could have sold it for twice that...then they had jogging strollers clearnced to TWELVE dollars and I know I could have sold that for at LEAST 50$ plus shipping on their part...same thing happened with some norelco cordless shavers, i bought one for dh at around 17$ down from around 70$...had i bought more to sell I could have made money on that too..
I really am getting the urge to start ebaying again, but I'm going to wait until Ayla starts school or preschool so it will be easier for me to do the shopping and listing
Oh and if your items don't sell you can always return it to target, and you are only out the cost to list it..although once in a while they have free listing days

I've been a stay at home mum for the last 17 years and still got a 2 year old at home so still counting! LOL.
I've done envelopes, tupperware, avon, ann summers, pippa dee, (well to save the list just about EVERY party plan company there is!) Door to Door selling, catalouges - you name it!
I know it may be A LOT different as I am in the UK? But envelopes were a RIP OFF and as suggested already EBAY, EBAY, EBAY!
Sometimes it can be frustrating (Like anything) but you work when you like, it doesn't take much thought, you can start selling your own stuff (helps with the decluttering) AND it's great money for the time you put in. JMO.

You ladies are soooooo wonderful. I just talked to the dh and he didn't like the "stuffing" idea to begin with, but he's okay with the ebay! I guess I'll start haunting the auctions to see what's what.
I'm sooooo excited! This is something I can start tomorrow. I can keep the "outside" job while I start this and see how I like it. If I do...GOOD BYE POTTERY!
THANKS!

Good Luck with your new venture!
We had long threads on eBay selling not that long ago - go and check them out for some good ideas.
Don't get into spending more than you make - it defeats the object LOL.
If you want anything feel free to mail me, like I said things are different in the UK, I appreciate that, but I'd be glad to help if I can.
Have fun!
